Now seeking Tulip Festival tips
Barring a big rain, Mrs GW & I are loading up the dog and heading for Holland tomorrow. Neither of us have ever seen the Tulip Festival, and I’m hoping a midweek trip will be easy in and out. There’s also a Dutch dog parade where locals dress their pups in traditional Dutch outfits, and my wife really wants to see this. No, we will not be in the parade. I oppose dressing dogs in any type of outfit. No bunny ears, no reindeer antlers, nothing.
Anybody been to this thing before? Tips are welcome, as are recommendations for local grub.

My last visit there was in 1992. I remember an outlet mall with windmills. I'll probably go in July though.

But won’t the festival be over and the tulips bye-bye-o?

Yes. I expect it will be quieter then. And warmer.

Good call. There’s a 70% chance of rain and windy at times, with temps in the low 50s. That means even colder due to winds. Wifey hates that type of weather. Its going to be a call from the field tomorrow morning, but it’s beginning to look like Operation Flower Power may be a no-go.

GF and I are actually planning a few days in July in Grand Haven, so Holland/Macatawa will probably be a day trip from there.
Good luck with your game day decision.

Thanks. Good luck to you, too. This won’t be your first travel time together, will it?

I would like to share a chuckle with you, Floyd, but I’m unfamiliar with Fricano’s. Therefore, I don’t get the joke. I hate being being on the outside looking in.

Make sure to wear some khakis, a button down shirt, some loafers, and talk a lot about your 401K.
You'll love it.

(as far as traffic goes, I'm heading to a rock show tomorrow in Grand Rapids - someone told me that there is quite a bit of construction along I-96).

You know, Holland has a significant issue with gangs. I’ll let you know if I see any Latin Kings dressed in khakis and pink oxfords.

Can someone pick me up a pair of wooden shoes while you're there? I've heard they're really comfortable for hiking.

Apparently people suck at driving in Holland and you are probably going to die. Have fun!

The Worst Driving Cities
#1 Holland
Taking the top spot for Michigan's worst drivers, Holland might have stirred a debate on whether east or west Michigan has the worst drivers. The following worst-driving cities are eastern, but with Holland being in the west, it's up for debate among rivals. Holland borders Ottawa and Allegan counties. In 2017, Ottawa county had 5.94 fatalities per 100,000 people while Allegan county had 11.16. Drivers: Be careful in the southern parts of Holland.

any update on I-96 between Lansing and Grand Rapids? I know I-196 is jacked up.. but someone, as I mentioned, told me that 96 was pretty rough around Portland with construction.
