German Food
Went to a German Retaurant this weekend and got some Wiener schnitzel. It came with a side of red cabbage and spatzle. Let me tell you that red cabbage will give you some serious farts. Also German ftw. Nothing beats a good lager or Pilsner.

The Berghoff in downtown Chicago is pretty solid. Get the Jager schnitzel.

I have. Great science museum in Munich. Loved Berlin as well. Have a few friend that live there and they love it. The German restaurant I went to is by the cliffs past New Paltz. We traveled for a day hike and then drove on over for beer and a meal. The place is at the base of an amazing looking mountain. The food was dynamite.
Link to restaurant, great time of year to go. The fall color was stunning -

Yeah, it's not something I'd want to eat all the time but it really hits the spot every now and then. I think the food really compliments beer and their Pilsners/Lagers are about as good as it gets.

That can’t possibly be worse than the German potato salad my mom used to make.

Re: German Food
Also, one other thing to note - saurkraut is incredible. A good fermented food from eastern europe. I also love kimchi a good fermented food from Korea. I saw a nature special where they went over the process of fermenting shark in Iceland. How come this country doesn't have a signature fermented food? We need to work on that.

So is German beer. Been hitting that section at the beer store lately. Some of those pilsners and lagers have been made for four to five hundred years. I can't really get into their wheat beers yet but everything else is good.

A good Rueben is hard to find.
p.s. Anyone know where I can find a good Rueben not named Kincaid?

Sauerkraut is common with my in-laws as they are all polish. So typical polish/German food. I love the smell of sauerkraut, but I hate the taste. I try it every year hoping I will like it.

I was at a Polish restaurant in London a couple of years back and finally tried borscht. No need to ever try it again.

Tons of Middle Eastern and Indian restaurants around here. Some Italian and Polish places. Can't think of a single German restaurant nearby. Love sauerkraut, even made it a couple times.

Could be worse, I guess. At least I don’t have to eat haggis, blood pudding or sausage, or lutefisk.

Yes! And let’s see if we can distill it into some kind of liquor, too!

Maraschino cherries.
“ In their modern form, the cherries are first preserved in a brine solution usually containing sulfur dioxide and calcium chloride to bleach the fruit, then soaked in a suspension of food coloring (common red food dye is FD&C Red 40), sugar syrup, and other components.[2]”
I think I’ll pass.

I know there are ton of those places around us. I really want to try a good Indian buffet place, but I don’t know which place is considered good. Any suggestions?

Indian food is divine. It wasn't until my 30's that I was exposed to it. That's another fine cuisine that pairs up so well with a good beer.

Re: German Food
Cedar Springs Brewing if you are around GR.
https://csbrew.com/menu/
They bought a number of pieces from the Schnitzlebank German Restaurant that was a fixture in GR from 1934 until it closed in 2006 and have some of the best German menu in the area.
The Schnitz was authentic. During WW2 one of their Cook’s was arrested for sending shortwave radio messages to Germany
