Another example of how much the NCAA cares about college athletes
$22,000. That’s the total amount of the medical bills that Oregon 6’ 7” women’s basketball player Sedona Prince is left with after a serious injury and post-surgery complications from her time with USA Basketball. It’s her responsibility and no GoFundMe page is permitted to help her. If she were a non-athlete....well that’s another story.
Prince shared her story on a podcast, (and on Twitter this week), letting the larger world into a little known issue and byproduct of competing for both a national team and an NCAA team inside the eligibility window a player has for her collegiate career.

But we can't pay them. Scholarships are ample compensation. Too much, if anything.

I don’t think the NCAA cares about its student athletes at all, Turtleneck.

Why is Forbes calling out the NCAA and not USA Basketball (which is a separate organization) for her injury. She was injured while playing for USA Basketball, her situation is complicated by being a college athlete - it sounds like UT did what they could to help while she was there, and now the NCAA is reviewing (whatever the hell that means to those idiots) her eligiblity.
But clearly the medical costs should be on USA Basketball, and how are those kids not insured - or is this really just another case of an insurance company trying to skip out on paying.
Disclosure - I'm no fan of the NCAA, but these national amateur sporting organizations sure seem like shitstorms (looking at USA Gymnastics and the US Olympic committee)
