Seems like the No Mow May warriors all gave up about three weeks in last year. I mean, good for them for trying. I compensate for being a Mow Baby Mow extremist by offering a bunch of Michigan native pollinator friendly perennials.
Then the do-gooders with the signs in their yards.. and about mid-late May they hire a John Deere combine to come through to do a suburban harvest of their lawn.
I know a couple who tossed in the towel early because of all the mosquitos in the taller than usual grass. The law of unintended consequences strikes again.

FYI -I mowed our back yard this evening, then hung with my my wife on the deck, sipping a drink while listening to Nathenial Rateliff and The Night Sweats.
Fuck "No Mow May". I ain't seen no shortage of bees in the neighborhood.

Canada thistle, what are you doing about this spikey fucking assholes? I put down a shit ton of mulch. They don’t give a shit, coming up right through it. You pull em but the roots are deep fuckers and you never get the whole plant. I’m considering salting the earth and trying planting in my garden beds again in 50 years

White vinegar is your friend. It kills the whole plant and does it quickly. You can get 1.5 gal jugs at Costco, but I need to get several this weekend so don’t buy it all up. You can also get a 30% strength but I’ve never needed it.
Do NOT pull thistle. It only comes back in multiple new spots.

also - it's probably been said somewhere, but mix the white vinegar with just a little epsom salt and dish liquid.tGreenWay wrote:Travis of the Cosmos wrote:Canada thistle, what are you doing about this spikey fucking assholes? The dish liquid helps it adhere to the whole plant, versus just running down into the ground.

Never done that before. Just spray directly on the weed. I’m worried about adding any type of salt to the soil out of concern for having to leave it fallow.

Re: Bob how's your garden?
picked up 18 bags of mulch at Home Depot this morning.
the dude working in the garden area was a little miffed when I loaded them first, prior to paying.
dude, if I was gonna steal something, it wouldn't be something that meant I had to go home and work.

You can't blame him for thinking you're going unload that on the mulch black market.
