Good thing you posted this on a mature forum. Meat is one of the best places I've ever been

not sure but I can say a standout meal was after a huge hike in Yosemite where every muscle was sore that night I had chicken wings, a burger and a beer and all three were divine.

That qualifies. Doesn't have to be a great restaurant I guess.

I see. I have never been to Meat. I hear it's fantastic. Another place that I would like to try and maybe I will this week is AB's Amazing Ribs in Dearborn Heights. The best Meat place I've ever had was probably La BBQ in Austin. But I've had much more enjoyable meals because I was in the company of Girbaud for that one.

Trattoria Sostanza, which is the oldest restaurant in Florence, Italy. Opened in the 1880s. Had an AMAZING Steak Florentine. March 2019.

There should be categories.
For seafood, probably the buffet at Ocean Reef in Key Largo. All you can eat Stone Crab, Prawn, anything you can think of basically. All high quality.
Fast food - Sconecutters in Utah. I don't think I could eat there anymore, but when I could eat whatever I wanted, that place was great. The fries were excellent.
The Bistro on Anna Maria had excellent food, I don't remember what I had, but everythign there taste great.
My dad's steaks are still probably some of the best steaks I've ever had, and consistently better than higher end dining.

Re: Best meal you've ever had
Things that stand out to me right now....
Had a awesome seafood stew in San Fran. Still obsess about it. Fresh lobster in maine is pretty awesome. I don't know... Hard to say. About 25 years ago I had a slice of cheese cake in a hotel in Chicago that I thought was the best thing I ever ate.
Ya know, its probably something my wife made on a nondescript Tuesday though. She's pretty good at the cookin'.

Re: Best meal you've ever had
My first wedding dinner was at a place in Manitou Springs, CO called the Craftwood Inn. They served almost exclusively wild game but they had stuff like pheasant which I assume was semi farm raised, and bison which probably was. We had a little of everything including pronghorn, pheasant, bison, elk, and I can’t even remember what, the sauces were amazing the sides were fantastic, the wine was perfectly paired. It’s mostly a faded memory now but I remember it as the best meal I’ve had. Who knows if it would live up to the memory. Unfortunately the place is now mainly a rental space for weddings and shit (we didn’t have our wedding there, just dinner) and apparently doesn’t do the restaurant anymore.

A little roadside place out in a rural area of Chile. Nothing more than a little shack with sheets of aluminum as the walls and roof. Dirt floors, no electricity, food cooked in real clay ovens. Amazing empanadas and panamasado (bread).
I know it probably sounds gross and unsanitary, and I'm sure I've had better tasting food, but for the most real, authentic, down home, throwback to a different era atmosphere, it wins hands down for me.

Re: Best meal you've ever had
Hard to pick just one. Italian in-laws had owned a few restaurants and were both great cooks. Went to their house for Sunday dinner (1-2pm) not long after getting married. MIL homemade cannelloni and red sauce. You'd think they'd be sort of heavy but they were light as air and the sauce was awesome. Lost count of how many I ate but remember having to stop to make sure there was room for the rest of the meal. By far, the best pasta dish I ever had.
Went to The Rochester Chop House maybe 25 years ago. Ordered tuna, which I do often when it's on the menu. Perfectly rare and the best I ever had.
Spur of the moment went to Philadelphia for a long weekend in the mid 80's. Forget the name of the restaurant but had an awesome lobster dinner, better than others in Maine and Boston years later.
Had the best sea bass at a casual restaurant on Kauai.
Went on a 7 day Caribbean cruise in the early 90's. Food was not great. One evening they offered escargot done in butter and garlic. Four of us went through multiple trays of them. Best food of the trip.

Re: Best meal you've ever had
Geez, my memory barely makes it past yesterday. Best dinner overall, including wine and laughter was a small Italian place in Amsterdam. No recollection of what we actually ate. Best plate of bacon was at a diner called Sear’s in SF. Had the best chocolate dessert at a place just down the street from the diner.
Wasn’t impressed at all with Parisian food, but crazy enough, had the best cheeseburger of my life at a pub somewhere not downtown in Paris. Loved it so much I went back another night.
First time I tried saffron rice was a restaurant in Rome on the piazza del popolo. That was freaking amazing. Thinking about growing the saffron crocus so we can have more of that magical spice.

Friend's parents had a wild game dinner at their home. Forget everything I tried but remember the venison stew in a cream sauce.

another stand out meal, for a Birthday I had a few choice pastys shipped to me in NYC on dry ice. Cooked them up that night until the crust was golden brown, slathered them in ketchup and washed it down with a nice pint of fizzy ale. Fuckin fantastic.

Interesting side note it's probably the only time I ever get rutabaga in my diet.

Can't pinpoint a specific time, but Jersey Giant when you're stoned to the gills is hard to top for me, that might be my number one. I've had some excellent sushi too, so maybe that.

My dads homemade spaghetti. Was my children’s also. From the smell in the house, till he would sit down, sweating, then say some stupid Italian phrase, and we’d eat.
I’d give up red meat for life if I could have him prepare one more, made from scratch spaghetti meal for me and the kids.

Re: Best meal you've ever had
This is probably top 5 and it's messed up I was a kid when I had it
Jurassic Pub in Shanghai. Place was sweet and had a giant T-Rex skeleton in the middle of the building that spanned the first and second floor. We ate on the second right next to the skull. The freakiest thing was the entire place was on theme. You walked in and and apart from the obvious giant T-Rex, the ash trays were mini dinosaur skeletons with their mouths open for the cigarette butts. Well I had a couple 3 coca colas and had to piss...the fucking urinals were also these dinosaurs with mouths open and big ass teeth to plop your dick out and piss into. Add onto that there was an extremely poor old asian bathroom attendant man that wouldn't stop talking to me because I was American and it made pissing as a 13 year old extremely difficult.
Back to the food. Was a Teppanyaki place and I had never had steak like that in my life. Unreal. I was a standard picky kid so didn't stray far from the "norm". Seasoning and sauces that went with the steak were crazy good. I hated spicy stuff, but this was spicy and still somehow perfect. I got pretty good with chopsticks over there but couldn't take it and just skewered pieces to shovel them in faster. Place was legit
