Been using a variety of the #1 over 20 years for everything but pasta and potato water, for which I use kosher salt.

Table salt has a bitter, metallic taste IMO. Can't stand it.AvgMSUJoe wrote:Nerds

Steve is going to be confused and disappointed when he finds out his Pink Himalayan didn’t make the list.

Exactly this. Also, I think Pink Himalayan salt is just a bougie marketing gimmick and in a double blind test I bet yuppies couldn't tell the difference from the pink shit or the white canadian shit.

Beyond table and kosher have only tried Celtic. Liked it so much haven't bothered with others. Fairly inexpensive in the 22# bags I buy it.Dendrobates wrote:I knew pantry would chime in. He's been raving about different salts all the time

I guarantee you’ve had more. And if you were paying attention you’d probably still not be able to tell the difference. But...table salt, sea salt, kosher salt all do have distinctive flavors when used correctly. When too much is put on and you can taste salt, it’s hard to tell the difference.

Re: The most popular salts in Europe
Celtic sea salt has a mild flavor. You'd have to go way overboard to over salt anything with it. The course stuff requires a grinder for use as a finishing salt. Tried many of them and Kuhn Rikon vase grinders work about the best. Easy to adjust the grind. Work great for peppercorns also.

Iodized salt and seas salt, sure. But anyone who says they can taste the difference between unflavored sea salts in a dish that isn’t like salt encrusted blah blah blah is full of shit.

Yeah, would be tough to discern difference on most foods but bet I could do it on something flavor neutral like eggs.Rocinante wrote:Iodized salt and seas salt, sure.
