Probably not tonight since we both have to work early tomorrow. But I did just book a cabin in the woods for us for our anniversary in a few weeks!

when our daughter moved out years ago (about a mile down the road to her residence hall - ), I moped around the house for about two weeks like a lost puppy. Finally, one day, I went in her bedroom, sat on her bed and sobbed like a little kid. It was cathartic and made me feel better.

fast forward a few years, she actually lives less than a mile from us now and sometimes I'll text and say "whatcha doing? Busy? if not, wanna go for a walk on campus?"... I'm about 99.9% certain she sighs heavily and goes "sure, Dad". I do my best to give her space, to not reach out too much, etc. She was just my pal for 18 years and up and, then, BAM.. up and left.. Just like we raised her to do! WTF?!?  

the good news (for me) is that last week on the patio at The Peanut Barrel she, for the first time, mentioned some really interesting grad school research opportunities at... MSU.

I found out this weekend that my kids and some of their friends refer to me as "Q-tip" behind my back. Fuckers. I knew they had a contest when they'd run out on the court or field they'd see who could spot me in the crowd first with my white hair, but I thought it was a cool thing till I found out that they actually make fun of me. (it did help when the cheer leaders would run up in the stands with a pizza and frozen pop at the basketball games. I got more than my share of "random' guys in the crowd getting chosen)
