Some members of the GOP are very upset the country might officially commemorate the end of slavery with a national holiday. And did this guy call freeing of the slaves in Texas and the end of slavery “dark times?”

There should be at least 2 federal holidays per month, minimum, where no one works. I’m okay with one per week. If it makes that poor, poor, aggrieved white man feel better, I’m totally comfortable with having one for him. Like, say, a federal holiday commemorating the opening of the first McDonald’s

The only issue I have with this is that the private sector will largely ignore it. So we get to pay for govt workers to have another paid day off while the rest of us put in the usual 8 hours.

Fine by me given the extent government subsidizes the private sector.

It’s pretty much the “I have black friends” response by the GOP to the voting rights act.

While "Admin for tSwill" does carry quite a bit of clout in the business world, the powers that be in the private sector have been mostly unresponsive to my various demands over the years. My current employer did manage to switch the 401k match deposits from quarterly to per pay period after I, and presumable others, bitched about it for a decade. A real victory for the masses.

God forbid we get MLK AND Presidents Day off. And forget about Veterans Day too, peons. Now get back to work! Oh, and we're gonna need you to stay late tonight & come in on Saturday too (unpaid of course. You're on salary). Those WEENUS reports won't generate themselves ya know.

I think some people, like maybe Bob for example, think of the first day you can buy McRibs as a federal holiday.

I’m just glad federal employees got today off with pay since they had so much to do with ending slavery.
