Re: Is there a better year for debut albums than 1978?
So this Clash thing...I think their debut album was released in the U.K. in 1977, but not in the U.S. until 1979 after "Given 'em Enough Rope" was already released in 1978.
But whatever, that's an impressive list.
I have always thought the best era for new music was 1977-1981, but it has a lot to do with my age.

Foreigner, at the time was pretty good. I seem to remember that around 78.

maybe it's my age talking, but the greatest time period of "album rock" was pretty much '75-'80. Pretty amazing the genuine 'classics' released over that five year span.

Kingston, you may have finally struck gold. This is a good, strong list. For shits and giggles, Supertramp’s debut in the States was late ‘77, so I’m counting it as ‘78, too, even though the album had been out for nearly a decade in the UK.

It feels like the first time Foreigner released an album was in '77.

Debut albums indeed, but I’d take 1972 and 1967 as the best years for albums. Debut or otherwise.

Primus Sailing the Seas of Cheese. There’s one I haven’t thought of in a while. I always felt like that was a band everyone just tolerated and there was this weird peer pressure to go along with the herd and say they were cool. I always thought the music sounded like a terrible acid trip.

Just pulled up the album on Youtube and made it through about :40 seconds or so and it confirmed that my memory was right. 'When the stomach acids flow'

That Van Halen debut album is a stunner. All killer and no filler. Perfect from start to finish.

Wow, that’s a real great list. It’s not that I don’t like that music, I guess I just have a bit of a different taste in music. I’m still sticking with 67 and 72

While they didn’t put out their first album until a couple of years later, it was 1978 when The Beat was born. RIP, Ranking Roger.

91 works for me. I thought Pretty Hate Machine had come out in the 90's but apparently that was 89. Close enough though.

I appreciate this. Maybe I will spend some time with it. Notably absent are bands/artists like The Who, Queen, Bob Dylan, Lynyrd, the Stones, Deep Purple, Eric Clapton, The Kinks, etc.

This means it's really bad that you're still stuck on the Eagles. Primus was great. Rocked Woodstock '94.

If we’re including solo projects from people in established bands then add David Gilmour.
