Urban Meyer: "There is only one rival"

“When I was at Ohio State in the mid-80s, they came into Ohio Stadium and beat us and there was a great rivalry already there, but you have to be clear there is one rival,” Meyer said at Monday’s Big Ten media days at the Chicago Hilton, referring to Michigan, which he does not refer to by name. “That will never change. However, Wisconsin became a very big game and obviously this one is obviously a huge game. It’s a credit to both schools that they’re good programs.

“But there is one rival.”

I heard this and I loved it.

I hope those two stupid ass schools keep tripping over their own dicks trying to convince themselves they hate each other more than the the other hates them. Good for them. Hate it up motherbitchers! Hate it where the sun don't shine!

Let's be real. tOSU's only rival is the NCAA compliance office.

They get away with pretty much anything, and Tressel got in trouble because he was dumb and used his official university email address, which made a paper trail.

The rivalry talk about Michigan is manufactured. The way they both talk about each other, they are more like lovers instead of enemies.

Tressel killed the rivalry by owning um, Meyer is more of the same. It plays well with old alumni, but um does not scare OSU.
Curious in the last 40 years how many times did um beat OSU when the bucks were #1 or undefeated.?

Then it won't hurt as much when they lose.

Has OSU won 9 of the last 10? That's not much of a rivalry.

It's not surprising he doesn't consider us a rival. We're now just entering playing them every year. But he should have mentioned he needs to get through us more than scum. They love each other 364 days a year. Then they can start a brawl and flip off the crowd and cameras and not be punished. Lol was their lineman seriously not suspended by the big ten?

Nope he wasn't. Meyer sat him out a bit I believe. Don't know why Delaney was so shocked when we booed the **** out of him and ohio state during the trophy presentation.

Delany started talking about Ohio State right away during the trophy presentation, which didn't help. I get that he was trying to recognize the opponent, but the way he did it was foolish. I loved those boos, and I loved when Dantonio snubbed him and Delany looked helpless up there on the stage.

Delany has done a lot of good for this conference but the way he handled Gholston compared to the way he handled tOSU brawl won't ever sit right with me.

Delany is an idiot, adding Rutgers and Maryland was a terrible move and I think he's going to fail trying to expand east. East coasters like pro sports, and if he thinks adding Rutgers or Maryland is going to make people on the east coast like B10 football he's wrong.

I almost felt bad for him at the trophy presentation. Almost. Then I remembered lewan throwing punches, twisting helmets and poking eyes. Then a bench clearing brawl where several players should have been suspended for leaving the bench and throwing punches. He just said I didn't see any reason to auspend anyone. **** him.

Living in DC, I have heard the Big Ten talked about on local radio on my drive in this week. There was actually analysis on Maryland and Penn State and what both would have to do to compete with Ohio State and Michigan State in the Big Ten East. That was nice to hear.

I think the B1G definitely can thrive in this market, and the PSU-Maryland rivalry should develop and get this area into it as well as the number of transplants around.

As for Rutgers, I haven't personally been that thrilled about that one. Is there anyone in that market that has seen good Big Ten coverage so far?

Makes sense.  Urban knows his team is an underdog to MSU, but he knows he's going to beat UM.  Better to hype the game that you will win than the one that you will lose.

Downplay a rivalry.  Good thinking.  That's worked out so well for that other team in the what used to be a Big Game rivalry.

This. Kinda reminds me of Nd. Saw what you want but we usually always get up for this game.... More so than our land grant rival
