Count me in. If the B1G doesn’t start building its own superconference, it’ll be left with scraps that will include Iowa State and other lesser attractive schools.

yep - of course, because I'm old, on the surface I don't like the idea of it. But I also understand that the world of college athletics has been evolving like wildfire and the NIL decision was like one of those helicopter tankers dropping gasoline on it.

Take all power 5 football, remove NCAA, put all in pods of 4 or 8, equalize schedules and pod winners or top 2 into a playoff or go back to regional conferences and bowl games with no playoffs like 80s and 90s

Five years ago I would have questioned this move.

Texas and Oklahoma to the SEC was a dagger to what the PAC12 had seen as unicorns to save their conference and the ACC circled the wagons. LA is the second largest TV market in the country but the Sonners and Longhorns schools opted to follow Mizzou and TAMU to the SEC.

ND has painted itself in a corner with its ACC for everything except football and Ice Hockey but their broadcast agreement with NBC ends in 2025. That might change things.

The old timer in me does miss the clear cut regional conferences, but we agree—it’s evolve or die. The NIL is a different thing for me, still. These student/athletes most def should get paid, and they should be free to negotiate their own deals, but there’s huge inequity there, now, too. Every player should be compensated and all we have now are the haves and have nots on college teams. It’s not how I envisioned it.

I would rather have Iowa St than two California schools. It will be funny in the future when both conference commissioners and schools oppose doing something logical for athletes on the basis of academics while simultaneously having said athletes traveling to and from the Midwest and Atlantic coast all the time.

Move Purdue to the Big Ten East.

West would be USC, UCLA, Iowa, Minnesota, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Illinois, Northwestern.

East would be MSU, OSU, Penn State, Maryland, Rutgers, Indiana, Purdue, UM.

I’ve grown disillusioned with college sports. They shouldn’t even require them to be students at this point. Just keep the teams associated with the colleges and do some revenue sharing bullshit and make them the minor leagues.

Take USC, UCLA, Stanford, Cal, Oregon, & Washington for a 20 team super league. 4 "pods" of 5 teams. You play your pod every year & rotate the other pods every 3rd year (home & home) for a 9 game conference schedule. Only problem is 1 of the west teams (Washington?) get left out of the west pod. My thought has been that they do four years in sports and then they bank in a scholarship for enough credit hours for a bachelors. The four years of sports is full time. Then afterwards they can use the credit hours to get a degree when they can focus on full time school. College is hard enough when not having to split it with sports. Then if someone doesn't want to go to college immediately afterwards, he/she could then go when they are 40 or whatever.
