So I'm driving up nort', and "Never Been Any Reason" by Head East comes on the dial. I'm thinkin, "that chick sounds kinda wild." I've never know who she was, so I make a point to check it out when I get here. IT'S A DUDE!!

Don't forget their other big hit  - a cover of "Since you been gone" - later covered by Rainbow.




Also the singer you speak of (John Schlitt) went on to be the lead singer for the big Christian rock band Petra.

I noticed "Since You've Been Gone" and had always thought it was a Rainbow original (solid cover).

Used to listen to some Petra back in the day too. Kind of cool to make new discoveries with classic music. I had no great appreciation for Badfinger until the past few years.

Drove down to North Carolina with my 24 & 26 year old daughters for my niece's funeral in March. One Republic's 'Counting Stars' came on the radio somewhere in West Virginia and I commented that I really liked the song and the soulfulness of the chick backup singer's voice. Both of them insisted there was no female vocalist in the song. Sort of blew my mind

When i first listened to the mars volta, i was sure it was a woman. Sometimes you just can't tell.
