In 81/82 I lived with a wrestler. Grady Peninger was the coach. That was before cell phone. He’d call our townhouse 6 days a week at 5:30 am. Who ever answered it, he wouldn’t even say hi, just “wake that little cowboy up and get his ass to campus”. No goodbye either.

Best coach ever. Only school ever to win a NC in a 30 year span between 63 and 93 that wasn’t from Oklahoma or Iowa was his 67 Spartan. We were #3 behind Iowa nationally back then. Unfortunately we never could get over the hump in the 80’s.

I think the program has really been mid to weak since he’s left. But I haven’t really followed.
