Thought maybe we could have a thread with commentary only and no linking.  Often linking can be an annoyance to the subject being discussed. And frankly anyone can find a link that supports their views on an issue. State your cases or make your comments if you like!

My favorite way to speak with libertarians is to tell them they can have certain restaurants with no regulations or oversight but they can only eat there and nowhere else. They might hesitate but usually say okay. Then I propose they only be allowed to fly Libertarian Airlines. That’s when they usually shut up. Stop signs and traffic lights are another good argument.

For the last year I’ve tried to “unplug” from “news”. I definitely have kept up on world events, local stuff, and sports. But Ive really tried to limit my exposure. Guess it seems like I know what’s right and what isn’t by who’s for it and who’s against it. You hear work chatter, muttering, conversations in the store, etc and you just have to sigh.  Sad it’s come to that but I realized after COVID and the 22’ general election it can eat you up and stresses you out. Looks like we’ve reached the point where relatively smart people have succumbed to disinformation and propaganda. Sucks it’s come to that but reasonable debate is a thing of the past between economic and social ideologies.

There has always been a bias in each media outlet.  Once about a time the J-schools and major outlets attempted as best they could to provide objective information in their news stories.  Then the J-schools began pointing out that the selection of which stories to report was in itself a filtering from reality to reporting.  They taught their students, from this observation that there is no such thing as objective reporting so there was no point in being objective in news stories.

This has totally screwed up the stories and thus caused too many opinions in the stories.  When a story says the thing being reported is "horrible" or "unprecedented" or any other descriptor it is telling the reader what to think about it, which is not objective reporting.

Politics & politicians started putting that on steroids back in the 1980's which has causes further stratification of political opinions.

One almost has to be one's own editor, striking all the descriptors from what one reads & reading multiple outlets to see the stories that each is reporting that the other is not.  Nobody has the time to do that consistently.

Pretty much a textbook example of the media reporting a conclusion it wants to project based on selecting the stories it reports.

N95 or KN95 masks are very effective.

Paper medical masks have some effectiveness by are not as effective as "95" masks

Cloth masks limit aerosol drops are the least effective but are better than no masks.
