Workplace mystery...
Company I work for designs and builds special machines. Around 35 payroll employees plus a number of contract employees, some of which seem like regular employees because they are often at our place for years at a time. You get to know them...or think you know them.
We've had an industrial controls contractor at our place for a couple years. Worked with him on a number of projects. Really nice guy and pretty competent at problem solving. Prompt and went wherever the company needed him on any given day.
He didn't show up at work Tuesday morning. Our controls manager called his cell later and got no answer. He then called our controls contract house to ask where he was. The owner didn't know and said he would call back.
The owner of the contract house called back yesterday. Said he couldn't get in contact with the guy on his cell or home phone and that he contacted the OC sheriff's office. The OCSO told him all they could say was, "He's fine, but don't expect him back to work any time soon".
The owner called our controls manager again today. Said he called the OCSO to inquire about retrieving the laptop his company had supplied the guy to do his work (PLC programming), He was told the FBI has it and the guy has been using 3 different aliases.
Speculation at work is rampant. No one knows what the guy was up to.
