Why has Drummond regressed?

He was an allameican candidate and first team all B1G last year. He's a liability this year. Just doesn't make sense.

Our safety play in general has been mediocre all around, including tackling.

Seems like Drimmomd and Cook have let their media hype get to their heads. Both are struggling making basic, fundamental plays. Don't need the big play all the time.

My guess is there is more on his plate this year and he might be pressing a bit. Also, safety is the most demanding position on our defense and the most likely "to get burned". He had a pretty damn good game against Nebraska except for 1 or 2 plays. He leads the team in tackles and INTs. But those plays are going to stick out because they are typically going to be big plays.

Maybeewis really was that good. Seems like last year Drummond just played and maybe he's thinking too much now?

There was a play in the 3rd quarter, I think that Purdue was going for another screen pass, he sniffed it out, changed the lineup of the CB and there was either a tackle for loss, or not much of a gain. He might have to make the calls for the secondary, and maybe he's getting out of position to do so? I really don't know, he also had another missed int, that turned into a big run and went for a big hit that turned into a big play. Second half he had at least one breakup and went for a tackle instead of a knockout. I think the coaches talked to him during the half and showed him his mistakes. Instead of going for the homerun he made the necessary plays, which is what we need him to do.

The communication and reads have been late this year. But it's not surprising when you look at who we lost- Denicos, Max, Lewis and Dennard. Huge roles to fill. On the last Purdue TD our guys were still trying to figure out assignments when the ball was snapped.

I don't know, but it seems like he's trying to do too much this year. I hope it changes, because I really like Drummond and want to see him have a great senior season.
