The head of the fifth metatarsal breaks quite easily when you jump and land on someone else's foot causing your foot to roll to the outside. Sometimes it requires a pin and sometimes not. The "war drill" is made for fifth metatarsal fractures. When I broke mine it took 2 1/2 months before I could jog on it, but my foot was also severly sprained and I didn't have a trainer to help work the swelling out.
