ESPN: Season report card: Michigan State

Overall: B+

Never take for granted an 11-win season – even at Michigan State, where the Spartans have enjoyed four in the past five years. As usual, it got solid leadership and improved from start to finish. Sure, MSU didn’t produce complete performances in its biggest games, but no team nationally, including Alabama, can claim a better two-loss resume.

Some blogger guy comes in and gives his letter grades for offense, defense, special teams, coaching, and above, overall. B+, huh? What do you guys think? Would you say the season was a B+?

Uh.....try D+. Barely making the tourney given the recruiting talent is flat out embarrassing. B+ is top 15 for this program

Meh, if msu loses the cotton bowl that grade looks a lot different.

There are 128 FBS teams. Finishing #5 would be the 96th percentile. I'd say that's worth at least an A-.

From the national perspective? Yes, B+ We were beaten soundly by Oregon and OSU (sorry, no moral victories for 1st quarter and 3rd quarter leads on the national stage) and were on the verge of getting blown out by Baylor before boner time.

We are two years removed from many suggesting we fire our coach and now a top five finish IN THE COUNTRY is less than an A?

2.)Again, I think it's a matter of context and perspective.

Nationally, I can see the logic in the rating, from a Spartan fan perspective, anything less than an A+ is stupid.

If a magic fairy came to you on August 30th after Braxton Miller went down and said to you they could guarantee you MSU would finish 11-2 with losses to Oregon and OSU, not win their division and win a "big 6" bowl game would you have taken that or rolled the dice?

You would have rolled the dice. We all would have.

It was a great season historically but THIS YEAR the team did not meet THEIR expectations, nor our expectations. So technically they underperformed. B+ is totally fair, but I get an A- grade, too.

Does that mean we should be "dissatisfied" with the state of the program? Hell no.

We are winning the National Championship next year. Write that down.

The Baylor win was a nice consolidation prize. We were top 4 in my eyes. No way would bama have beaten us

I don't get the logic in the national rating either. We were preseason #8 (AP) and finished #5. Our ceiling was considered making the playoff and we finished ranked one spot out of it. But I know I'm being picky. Bob can drop in any time with a "MSU always gets an A+ from me!" post now.

Its one of those things where they assign grades to each teams' seasons but only have like 3 or 4 teams out of 120 get an 'A'.

Which is stupid. MSU for sure had, at minimum, an A- season. A+ is only when we win the B1G.

of course, MSU does always get an A+ from me.. I just wish I could say the same for the officiating, Delaney, the Blue Wall, E$PN, and the $EC..

The B+ is a sign of respect when a Top 5 is only considered that it means lofty things are expected
