Fatal car crash at Stoney Creek Empty Fatal car crash at Stoney Creek

Post by WhiteBoyHatcher 2015-05-09, 21:10

Terrible story. It seems odd to me that they can't piece together exactly what happened yet. I was hearing last night that they weren't sure if some of the injured/deceased were walkers/joggers/bikers or passengers in the car. Now it sounds like they are saying they were all passengers in the car. I'm a bit broken up over it, one of the deceased was a kid who was in my wife's classroom in elementary school who I distinctly remember because of his uniqueness. She's pretty upset.

For those who don't know, Stoney Creek is a large 'metropark' up in Macomb with a decent sized lake, a ~ 7 mile road/bike path loop that surrounds it (25 mph), beaches, golf course, mtb trails, playgrounds etc. It gets a ton of traffic when the weather is nice. I can't believe someone could be going 70-80 mph in there, kids or not. Unbelievable that more people weren't hurt.

Sad.  No

Yeah that's horrible. I had a few close calls myself at that age just doing dumb teenage stuff. You almost have to be smart AND lucky.

I read they were driving a jaguar?

This is precisely why a 17 year old shouldn't be driving a jaguar. Stay in your 02 Saturn where you won't feel the need to show off.

Feel awful for the families. My niece was killed by a guy under the influence early last year.

Went to school in Warren and skip days were usually spent at Stoney.

Daughter was there yesterday for senior skip day. I'm up north still trying to get my mom settled from my dad's death two weeks ago. A friend of mine texts me 'three teenagers died today at Stony Creek", that was it. I almost passed out from fear trying to dial my daughters phone. Obviously she wasn't involved, but the fear was real for a couple of minutes. I can't even begin to think about what the families are going through. I know an assistant principal from the school. She's pretty shook up.

Thing is, we'll hear this type of story again next year or the year after. It's heart breaking

I think the Jag was an older S type from what I read.

Kind of a relief, if you can call it that. Found out it was a different kid with the same name that was involved. Not my wife's former student. Still, hard to feel "better" about 3 young kids dying and another 2 in critical condition.

I used to run and bike at Stoney frequently. Took the kids to the kids to the beach/waterslide/playground there a few times last year, as it is the closest metropark to us. Also really surprised no one else was hurt on an 80 degree day.

Awful deal. Kids that age don't realize just how lethal the machines they're driving are. I know I didn't.

A jaguar S type is a rebadged ford Taurus. Basically a step down from the Saturn. Just sayin.

Doesn't mean that a super smart 17 year old isn't going to want to show it off in front of his friends because of the name on the car...

Obviously I don't actually know if that had anything to do with it or not. Couldn't have helped though.

Agreed. "Hey look I'm driving a European sports car". No you're not. You're driving a piece of shit re badged unreliable american family sedan with a Jag logo glued on it. Its really nice your parents probably bought that piece of shit thinking it made them look cool in others peoples eyes or even worse if they bought it for you so you'd look cool.
