I appreciate the effort Fox has put into this, but they need to back off the hours of punditry with seven women nobody has heard of and Alexi Lalas. There is zero narrative for them to talk discuss - nobody knows anything about any of the players, there are no rivalries, no scandals, no milestones, no small towns with water towers . . . Just show the bloody games.

I'm sure they're trying to make sure that in 3 years they aren't getting hate mail for having hours of coverage of the real World Cup.Cym Jim wrote:I appreciate the effort Fox has put into this, but they need to back off the hours of punditry with seven women nobody has heard of and Alexi Lalas. What surprises me is ESPN's continued slurping of this, at least as far as the ESPNFC show goes. I get that the US is in it, but it's really pretty poor soccer, technically. Don't get me wrong, I have tons of respect for the ladies. They play hard and go all out, and are far better than I ever was. But the level of play feels kind of like watching college soccer (though slower). As we've become so accustomed to watching top level soccer week in and week out, it really stands out as being at such a lower level.
Meanwhile, arguably the best continental tournament in the world is going on (Copa America), and ESPN almost treats it as an after-thought, if there is time after spending half the show breaking down the deficiencies of Costa Rican women's team.

I think I've watched about 45 seconds of the womens world cup.. and 30 seconds of that was by mistake.

Re: Womens World Cup
the one thing I get a kick out of is all of the little suburban girls and their families flocking to support the US women's team.. which includes someone who is currently charged with what appears to be a fairly serious case of domestic violence.MiamiSpartan wrote:I'm sure they're trying to make sure that in 3 years they aren't getting hate mail for having hours of coverage of the real World Cup.Cym Jim wrote:I appreciate the effort Fox has put into this, but they need to back off the hours of punditry with seven women nobody has heard of and Alexi Lalas. but.. she's white.. and (sort of) a female - so there's no need to be overly concerned.

Sales of ponytail holders must be through the roof.
Nearly went to a US women's game here in Denver a year or so ago. Glad I didn't - apparently 25000 13 year old white suburban girls screaming in unison was quite unpleasant.

Alex Morgan and some Johnston chick wasn't bad on the eyes. With that said, I'm proud to live in a place where they are allowed to go "full lesbian" (slowly, in some places, right?)
