I was surprised he came back this year. I'm not sure how old he is, but I assume he's pushing somewhere around 288. Its actually kind of honorable that he isn't leaving in what is going to be a rebuilding year for Wisconsin.

Wisky doesn't have any '16 commitments according to Rivals and Ryan wanted his assistant Gard to follow him.
If Gard has a rotten Big Ten season it won't help recruiting.

Ryan was a good coach who got players who could run his Swing Offense and he won a lot of games from HS to D1.

There are a lot of HS coaches who would have better records if they used Ryan's offense instead of thinking an offense like Beilein's or Duke's that depends on 3 point shooting works at that level.

This was a power-play by Ryan.  He and AD Alvarez do not get along. Barry is a control freak IMO.  Bo felt he had earned the right to name his successor and wanted his long time assistant Greg Gard to take over when he retired. Alvarez said no as if he knew what was best for the basketball program instead of the HOF coach. Ironically Alvarez was the one who named BB his successor before his final year as head coach.  I think this is Bo's way of passing the team to Gard for an audition and saying FU to Barry at the same time.

I don't follow Wisky sports that closely, but having watched Alvarez all these years, I get the impression he's not one to let this play out according to Ryan's plan. I think Barry will use this extra time to explore his options.

Heard this on the radio this morning. I did not know any of this was happening in the background. Pretty crazy. Sounds like Bo knew he was going to do this all along.

Alvarez must suck to work for. I'm glad. It means Wisconsin will have trouble keeping their coaches in both major sports.
