We should be #3 or #4. We seem to be getting penalized more for Narduzzi leaving than we should.Other Teams Pursuing That wrote:Baylor? Meh. Top 5 woulda been nice. Oregon won't last up there.

Do Baylor or TCU have to play anyone out of conference? Well I think TCU plays Minny in Minny, so that's a pass for them. Baylor shouldn't be ranked out of the fact that they don't schedule anyone whatsoever.

The coaches probably wanted to make sure Baylor was in the top 4 so Briles didn't stab them. The Ingenious Gentleman wrote:Giant Moose wrote:

I think the B12 gets snubbed again. Why Baylor over TCU? Baylor's OOC scheduling is everything that is wrong with college football schedules.Tim Wakefield wrote:Playoff teams this year:

Only because I think Baylor runs the table. If anyone wins 12 games, they're in regardless of their OOC sched

Re: Preseason football Coaches poll out; MSU #6
FSU ran the table, and their OOC wasn't quite as bad as Baylors, and they got pushed down to #3. I think the committee is, hopefully, looking very closely at the scheduling. Now then, if the B12 turns out to be decent, they have a shot, but with it being down, for the most part, I could see the committee not voting them in.Tim Wakefield wrote:InTenSity wrote:

Baylor will lose at least once and possibly twice against West Virginia/K-State/TCU. When you don't challenge yourself, you set yourself up for a loss.

This is the year with no SEC playoff team so they can use it as an excuse to bump to 8.

And yet they still managed to lose. Plus they lost their QB who helped get them those 650 yards, cuz they didn't get shit on the ground.Rocinante wrote:The Ingenious Gentleman wrote:

Can we all just be honest and say winning that game needed a lot of luck and bad game management by Baylor?

If bad luck and game management could be dismissed, John L. Smith would be a two-time national champ.Rocinante wrote:InTenSity wrote:

Re: Preseason football Coaches poll out; MSU #6
How about a little bit of both. Baylor couldn't run the ball at all on us, so they were forced to throw. MSU stepped up at the end of the game, made the adjustments needed and forced 3 and outs. Baylor setup badly for a routine FG attempt, which isn't MSU's fault at all. MSU ran the blocking play they wanted to and executed it damn near perfectly. The game is 60 minutes long, and a lot of times teams need to play all 60 minutes.Rocinante wrote:InTenSity wrote:

A lot has to change for MSU to be successful against teams that run the read option or spread (well). I think they're ranked right about where they should be.

Re: Preseason football Coaches poll out; MSU #6
I keep reading stuff that says #6 is MSU's highest preseason ranking in the Coaches Poll ever. Why are these articles deeming the start of the Coaches Poll as 1991 just because that's when USA Today took over it?
The Coaches Poll has been around since 1950.

Actually, Baylor had 583 yards of offense, to State's 552. Not that much of a difference.

I think that is more than fair. It will be a tall order to finish that high. Vegas has us at 9.5 wins, but we would likely have to go 11-2 again to finish top 6. I know most of us have our sights set even higher with the playoff, but that would still be another great season.
