MSU to roll out green carpet for 200 recruits Saturday

East Lansing — The hype and buzz surrounding Michigan State's top-10 showdown with Oregon on Saturday night is big enough when just looking at the matchup on the field.
However, for Curtis Blackwell, Saturday will be insane for everything that happens right up until kickoff.

"Insanely great," Blackwell said with a laugh on Wednesday.

Michigan State's coordinator of recruiting — a position that has the much longer title of director of college advancement and performance — is preparing for one of the biggest weekends in Spartans history when it comes to identifying future teams and players. Nearly 200 football recruits will be on campus this weekend as the Spartans roll out the first big event in their "Spartan 300" recruiting effort.

Almost 60 of those players have already received offers from Michigan State and every one of them holds an offer from a Division I program.

"We've never been able to get that many top players on campus all at the same time," Blackwell said.

The entire push is a new approach by Michigan State to get its top targets on campus for big-time events.

I want to spend as much time on campus as I can. I only get to see it once or twice a year if I'm lucky. Plus it won't be a far walk from my hotel, and I'll start drinking after.
