I don't know why we wouldn't be #2 with a victory. We'd have the best win out of anyone.

Right. Because logic is the only factor in ranking teams. There would need to be at least one other team ahead of us losing. All else being equal, there's no way voters put MSU ahead of Bama. Not this early in the season, anyway.

I think enough voters will put us ahead of Alabama if we beat Oregon. We're no longer a surprise program.

After Oregon beat us last year they were #2 in the next AP poll, but #4 in the Coaches poll that week.

I don't know. I'd feel like we'd deserve to be #2 given what we have done and our status as a program now but you're right, the polls don't always reflect what is deserved.
