He's more concerned with personal accolades than team accolades. I still can't believe he was OK with being taken out of that postseason game with Detroit.steveschneider wrote:Giant Moose wrote:
Because he refused to pitch deep into games in the postseason for the Tigers yet did it in regular season games in Washington like a hypocrite. Plus he's a baby and wants to eliminate pitchers batting.
Your loss? He had a pretty great stretch last year and had probably the best pitching performance last season with his near perfect game.
Yet, here he is in DC pitching almost 9 innings in July and falling apart in August. And pitching a no-hitter in October when his team failed to make the postseason while the Mets were resting guys because they had already clinched the division.
And whining that he has to bat. Did no one tell him that pitchers had to bat before he went to the NL? What an idiot.

Tigers early schedule is brutal. I can see them completely being below .500 the first Month or so, and then turning it on. Early brutal schedule will give a false sense of who they are. If the teams they're playing play like they did last year.

Re: Official 2016 Detroit Tigers Thread
The Tigers still have no titles since 1984, and finished last in their division in 2015 so what did it really change? I could see the Tigers finishing last back in 1998 for a fraction of the cost. And now they have a bad manager and no more GM ace because Ilitch made some weird decisions.LooseGoose wrote:Deal of a lifetime: How Tigers got Cabrera in '07, changed everything

Scherzer is not the reason the Tigers failed to win a WS. With all due respect I think you're being a little too hard on him.
I don't recall the game you are mentioning, but even if he had stayed in the game I don't think it would have made a difference.

It will be interesting. On Ausmus' watch the Tigers have typically started out hot in April.

Game 2 of the 2013 ALCS against the Red Sox. And if you don't think it would have made the difference, then you are crazy. Our bullpen sucked royally and gave up a Grand Slam.steveschneider wrote:Giant Moose wrote:

Pitched 7 innings with a 4 run lead and you had Benoit good to go.
What if Scherzer went 8 innings was gassed and gave up the same grand slam?
The biggest fallacy in baseball fans is they always assume the other scenario would have worked.

It's not so much that I think it would have worked, but the guy was content that he was taken out only to have the bullpen blow it.steveschneider wrote:Giant Moose wrote:

He wasn't upset. He thought it was the right call. That seemed crazy to me and his reasoning was he can only throw 6 or 7 innings. Then flash forward, I see him in a Nats uniform pitching almost 9 innings in regular season games...and complaining about not having a DH. Guy is a baby only concerned about himself.

Look at Matt Harvey last year. Pitched unbelievable game, had the Mets poised to win. Very visibly upset that he was going to get pulled and then proceeded to blow the series.
A prime example of a scenario that you are arguing for that didn't work out well. Harvey probably should have been more like Scherzer in that scenario but then again KC had produced runs on every Mets pitcher at that point.

Sounds about right. I think it will take about 88 for a wc. I think they finish 2nd.

Very nice. I've enjoyed every single one of their beers I've tried. Every time I have one I wonder why I don't drink more of them.
Btw I really like the way this season is going so far.

Love their Oatmeal Stout and Nut Brown Ale. Cracked open the chocolate stout. It's good but not my thing. Too much chocolate and too sweet. Young's Double Chocolate Stout is much better.steveschneider wrote:

4-0 is certainly better than down by that score. Verlander will be (endearingly) insufferable after getting a hit and scoring on that HR.

Pistons & Heat just tipping on TNT too.....
they need to go 3-2 to clinch playoffs......and that's if the Bulls go 5-0.

Justin Verlander is the first Tiger pitcher to record a hit on Opening Day since Mickey Lolich in 1971.

Not playing because of being in Miami...no DH. Supposedly is ready to go.

I've wanted iggy at 1 for ever. I don't understand why they didn't experiment with it last year When we were in last.
