The HOF is at the bottom of my list of things I love about baseball. Was just talking about it with my friend the other week when they announced how Pete Rose will never make it in the HOF alive. It's like screw it.

There's just too much power given to the writers and the veterans. The fans should have a say on it as well and so should other members from the media.

Or they should just make a hard rule to qualify for the HOF. If you are in the top 5 of your position for 10 years then you are in and that's it.

If you cheated, had character issues, did roids, gambled and you didn't get caught during your career you are in PERIOD.

The HOF as it is, is just a forum to hand out some bizarre frontier justice that a bunch of pencil neck geek writers feel is warranted. Fuck you writers.

I guess based on today's discussion that was a swerve - but Player #1 is Lou Whitaker, off the ballot in year 1 - Player #2 is Joe Morgan, 1st ballot HoFer and acknowledged as one of the best 2nd basemen of all time.

You could line up similar comparisons for Trammell and Whitaker versus current HoF players that wouldn't even be close. When you compare stats Tram and Lou were much bigger snubs than Jack Morris. A case can be made that Bill Freehan and Mickey Lolich were bigger snubs than Morris.

Alan Trammell is proof that the Hall of Fame should revise its election rules

To think: At long last, Trammell and Whitaker -- the greatest double play combination in baseball history, with careers that become even more impressive with sabermetric analysis -- could be elected to the Hall of Fame in the same year.

If the Hall's goal is relevance -- both historic and contemporary -- it shouldn't let a silly, obsolete rule stand in the way of a story like that
