Fleck already making $800k per year in the MAC. I guess WMU wants to make sure he stays put. Although who knows if its true.

Industry sources tell FootballScoop that Western Michigan is working on a new contract for PJ Fleck that was described to FootballScoop as “unlike anything the MAC has ever seen”.

Specific details were not immediately available; but when consummated the package is expected to rival a lot of Power 5 head coaching compensation packages.

Fleck is the Tidy Bowl Man. Loves to row the boat all around the brown.

I don't get it. What has he done to warrant such money? It's not like he has a gaudy record or has even beaten a Big Ten team like some MAC teams have been able to do.

It will be interesting to see if this is true, and how much of an increase he gets. Honestly, regardless of what he does or does not warrant, how does a school that generates little, if any, revenue in football justify a P5 contract?

Fleck is currently getting $238K more than Frank Solich at Ohio and $270K more than CMU's Bonamego who are both getting $100K more per season than any other coaches in the MAC.

Why would WMU pay him more?
There are 128 D1 football schools and more than 61 of them already are paying their football coaches at least double of Fleck's $800K/year.  (ND, USC, Vandy, BYU are private and don't disclose coaching salaries)

Too many WMU boosters with more money than sense.  Maybe they are going to putting together a package to bump the pay of his staff.

Must be a lot of crazy donors because $750,000 in ticket sales revenue won't cover it.

Even if funded by boosters, dumb move on WMU's part.

The coach will be serving two masters. The school and a small number of boosters who pay his salary. Boosters are bad enough without making your coach directly accountable to them. Also, is it a good idea to entangle a program with boosters to that extent?

Then...after he leaves...it's not like you can pay the next guy less. Bad precedent being set if true.
