Television: Fucking Great Band.
Songs so well constructed. Hold up over time. Some of the best music to come out of that time.
Others from that era that are / were also sweet:
Talking Heads (obvi)
The Police (a little later)
Patti Smith
Velvet Underground
Stooges
Television has remained one of my favorite bands since I discovered them in the 90s. I never get tired of hearing their unique style.

Okay, I'm on a late 60s early 70s alt music kick now....
Have listened to the debut albums from the New York Dolls and Roxy Music today.

Have you heard Eno's Here Comes The Warm Jets? Check out John Cale's solo stuff from that era too. Vintage Violence
It all fits in nicely with the stuff you just listed above.

I'm planning on some bowie, but right now I'm going with stuff I haven't heard, or haven't heard in so long it's practically new.
Now on T.Rex, The Slider.

Wasn't crazy about T.Rex. I'm listening to the Eno Album now. So far so good!

We saw Patti Smith open for Journey back in '77 or '78 at the Lansing Civic Center. She was an angry miserable piece of work, kicking at guys, swearing at the audience. We didn't know dick about Journey. They open with "Wheel in the Sky" and the lead singer's long hair is flying all around. I leaned over to the guy next to me and said "At least this chick is good looking!" and the dude next to me goes "Fucqin' A" I was high as a kite and realized in a couple of songs that she was a he. We both did and laughed our asses off. Steven Perry sure had his feminine side working that night or Patti Smith is less of a woman than Steve Perry. You decide as I never could figure. I do know that Neil Schon rocked the house that entire set.

The open bitchiness is what made Patti Smith great. She's a lot less angry now.

Okay now I'm just on a musical train of thought journey (I love those!!)
Something on the Brian Eno album reminded me of Andrew Bird, so now I'm listening to Noble Creatures/Useless Beasts!
Great Album if you were wondering!

Saw her open for Neil Young last tour. She's a big flower power hippie now. That being said I thought her set was incredible and was thoroughly impressed.

Wouldn't surprise me that Eno album was very influential to a lot of cult bands.
Also, give the Eno album a little time. Its one of those that grows on you.

Great story.
Sort of a shame they got rid of that place.

Peter Green was a genius before he went crazy, and there were some great songs even after he left.

If you're looking for bands from that era that many have forgotten; do you remember Mott the Hoople? The video attached has some screaming sax work by Roxy Music's Andy McKay. They also had a reasonably good size hit with a cover of Bowie's "All the Young Dudes." I don't believe they were ever as popular in the US as they were in the UK.

If I'm being honest, all the young dudes is the only Mott the hoople I know. I'll check it out tomorrow.
