He knows he can get a better deal from Bob now that OTPT is employed.

Source: Washington, Cousins haven't broken off talks

Mike Florio wrote:A source with knowledge of the situation tells PFT that the two sides have not stopped talking, contrary to an ESPN report that talks have ended.

The source was adamant, and it’s unclear why someone would leak that the talks had stopped when they haven’t. From the team’s perspective, leaking that talks were broken off when in fact they weren’t would amount to a show of force aimed at creating the impression that the organization will walk if it needs to — or that it will apply the franchise tag if it chooses to. From the player’s persecutive, leaking that the team broke off talks would let other teams know that Cousins could be available (perhaps generating offers that would pressure Washington to offer more). Also, it would potentially generate support from fans, the media, and teammates for Washington to put more on the table.

Sounds like "the source" believes that Cousins' camp leaked the phantom "broken off talks" rumor to get other teams to sniff around Cousins, and maybe drive up the price.

"Kirk Cousins, Redskins break off contract negotiations" - ESPN 502811600 Chris Baker to Washington: "Pay the man"

Mike Florio wrote:Washington and quarterback Kirk Cousins reportedly have broken off negotiations on a new deal. A teammate currently under contract has chimed in, Twitter-style.

“Come on @Redskins pay the man @KirkCousins8 #ILIKETHAT,” defensive lineman Chris Baker said on Twitter. ... It’ll be interesting to see whether other current players speak out on behalf of Cousins, and whether that will make any difference in the negotiations between Cousins and the team.

Cousins always was beloved by his teammates, right, Bob?

Sorry for diverting this thread for a moment, but does anyone know when Le'Veon is due to get a new contract? He's worth more than the $1m/year he's being paid now. He's had 3 major injuries, and it would be nice to see him get some serious money before his career is over.

Unrestricted Free Agent after this year.

Market Value is $8.6 million/year according to this site:

http://www.spotrac.com/nfl/pittsburgh-steelers/leveon-bell/market-value/

This is the best post on this topic, and there's really no need to read any further lame attempts to provide information. Kind of a waste of time in my opinion.

A quick google search shows that this is his final year under contract. He'll be a UFA. He better make it through this season healthy. Unfortunate reality of NFL is that no one will want to overpay an RB who can't stay healthy.

He's going to get a franchise tag. Apparently there are two of them.

Pro sports CBA's and resulting contracts have become almost as confusing as the US tax code

As long as Snyder is ready to match any offer, this is an easy way to find out what Kirk's true market value is. Or do you think some other owner would over bid, knowing that the Skins pretty much have to match?

He gets the franchise tag - $19.95 million. Not a bad payday.

Good for him!

So let's see...I guess he'll pocket right around $10mm? How would I spend $10mm based on the conservative assumption that there's no more big payday after this one...

Put $7mm in an annuity to generate a fixed income stream (and preserve capital). Use the other $3mm to fill immediate needs and wants, reward yourself for the work you've put in that resulted in this?

No, hookers and blow.

If Danny Snyder gets him a little better protection and any kind of running game, he'll have a chance to make a lot more next year.

Nice. Very happy for another successful Spartan earning his worth. Now, what can we do to get LBell his payday? I'm willing to break anybody's knees in the Stillers organization. Except LBell, of course, which would be counterproductive and damn near redundant.
