Gotta be some experienced anglers on board for me to learn from.

Had a great day out walleye fishing on Saturday in the Detroit River with my 7 year old son. He picked up on vertical jigging right away, which surprised the boat captain and first mate, and he even landed a few walleye entirely on his own. We limited out by 9am, and by 11am we landed around 30+ walleye plus a dozen + small mouth and silver bass. Plus, about 30 minutes into the trip I hooked into a monster sturgeon. We played with it for 30 minutes or so, got him to jump a few times (it was a beast) and he eventually broke the 6 lb line. All and all it was an awesome day of fishing.

This weekend we are going to the park to fish from shore and have a camp out. Any pointers for attempted to land walleye from shore are appreciated.

Does anyone know of a lake around EL that rents kayaks to fish on? Heard about it through people, just don't know the name.

Do you guys recommend any of the 3 options over another? Looking for the most action possible Wink Any fish really. Bass is a bonus.

Burchfield Park, Hawk Island Park, or Lake Lansing Park South?

I used to like Hawk Island. Rarely caught anything there, but it's a nice spot.

There is also a 17 acre lake in Krego Park. Just west of 127 off Mt Hope Rd. No rentals there but I always see people fishing there.

That is a bowfin. Here in Michigan, they are about as rare meth labs and fat women.

Yeah, those bitches are eerie.  I used to do fisheries work in Northern MI and when I was snorkeling to do nest surveys and such those fuckers would follow me and occasionally just lightly touch my back or leg.  rather disturbing.  affraid

Good find Goose. This makes perfect sense since its a native species and currently their is a a plentiful food source.

There must have been one helluva alewife hatch in upper Lake MI this year. Have family that lives in Manistique. Last year we went out for about 20 hours total, got 5-6 hits and landed 3 Kings. This year people are fighting for spots at the city boat ramp, lining up on weekends and driving up from downstate Wisconsin to fish.

A nephew visited over the 4th of July and they landed 13 fish in 3 hours. They kept 4 salmon and the biggest lake trout. When they filleted out the laker they noticed a tail in its throat. Cut open its stomach and it had about 30 alewives and hadn't swallowed all of the last one when it it their silver and purple spoon.

If you have access to at least an 18 foot boat there is fishing like we used to see 20 years ago when salmon fever was running high from Manistique to the Green Peninsula and Big Bay De Noc.

2017 Black Lake sturgeon season over in one hour

Once again the 2017 Black Lake sturgeon season in Cheboygan County, Michigan, was a quick one, lasting just over an hour. The Department of Natural Resources announced the results of this year’s season, with the recreational harvest limit of seven fish being attained, along with the additional harvest of one fish.

Mark your calendars for free fishing weekend

MICHIGAN (WPBN/WGTU) -- Dust off your fishing poles as the Michigan Department of Natural Resources announced the dates for free fishing weekend.

Free fishing weekend will be held Saturday, June 10 and Sunday, June 11.

The DNR says as a part of these weekends, all fishing license fees are waived for two days. However, please note all other regulations still apply during that time.

Lake Michigan salmon fishing is on fire
tOfficial Swill Fishing Thread -3a06344d5c548974

The salmon fishing on Lake Michigan is on fire.

Based on the reports from several ports in West Michigan, anglers have been catching many chinook and coho during fishing trips on the Big Lake.

How good is the salmon fishing? One charter captain reported that by 9 a.m. Friday his boat had landed 17 salmon while fishing on Lake Michigan out of Muskegon

I'm not a frog hunter. It was just some random thing that showed up in my twitter feed.

I actually find it kind of funny that a) people hunt frogs and b) our legislature is wasting time catering to the 82 Michigan frog hunters.
