Anybody ever sell stuff on eBay?
Promised my wife I'd purge crap this summer, and time is running out. Most will be donated, maybe some things on CL or LetGo, but I'm coming across stuff that might go for lots of $$.
Was your experience with eBay easy? What % of a cut do they take? Seems like a PITA to me, but I'd prefer to get top dollar rather than half or less from a local peddler.

Yep. But I'd rather get money for shit I don't use than let it rot in the basement.

Find a local Facebook group that sells stuff in your area. That's the best bet.

It depends what you're selling. What do you have that you think is worth money?

Call (517) 482-9715 for a pickup. Take the tax donation write-off. Or don't and just feel good about getting rid of stuff.
Unless you're going to net a few thousand $$$ getting rid of stuff on e-bay sounds like it's incredibly time consuming.

One thing I know I don't have, because I gave it to a buddy, is an original Heavy Metal movie poster. I haven't checked what it would go for now, but ten years ago it was worth hundreds. Can't believe I let that guy have it, and I'm certain he treated it like garbage. Damnit.

I'm donating a shitload of stuff. The stuff I'm referring to would be posters, old signs, etc.
but I agree with you that the time involved may not make it worth it.

Haven't gone through it all yet. There's a lifetime of posters going back to the 70's. I'll probably check out eBay for some to see if there's interest from others and to gauge prices, if there is.

I think you're on the right track. There's a lot of interest on that kind of thing. People expect airwaves it is authentic and not a reprint. Lots of photos documenting damage. But if you have some good shit, yes you can make some money. EBay will rape you on your profits but it's still the best game going which blows my mind considering how a new app comes out every hour.

I figured they're going to get a big cut. It's still probably worth it given the size of the audience. You're right--there's new apps out there, but eBay still delivers the eyes.

Ebay used to be great for what you want to do, now they suck.
I used to sell a fair amount of stuff on there, have now sold maybe 2 things in 5 years.

Do you have time to tell me why they suck now vs previously, or is it too convoluted to put it all down here?

Greenway, I'll do the work on eBay and I'll take a cut as well. How does that sound? Send me a short description, pictures, and ideal price.

If you want to drop some of the things off in the pit in my basement I'll pay you for them. Maybe some small boxes of books or some lotion or an old tv or something. Just let me know :)

That's a very nice offer, and I might've considered it if you lived here. As it is, if I'm going to pack it and ship it to CO, I minus well ship it directly to a buyer.
I'll leave some cash in a book at the MSU Library for your concert fund.

Not sure yet. I have to go through and inventory them. I won't be selling my MSU posters, though. They'll be framed and hung. I have some pretty cool ones, including a couple that are extremely hard to find.

See - you would still ship them from EL. I would just handle the eBay side of things.

That's part of the problem. They've been rolled for years. I wasn't exactly thinking ahead when I stored these things.

Quick version - they've put 100% of the power in the buyer's hands. ANYTHING the buyer says goes. It used to be that both buyers and sellers left feedback for each other now only the buyer can leave negative feedback. I'll give you the straw that broke the camel's back for me.
I bought the contents of a motorsports business that went belly up. Spent a spring/summer selling the parts, decals and stuff. I finally got to the tires. I listed them all as "as-is, no warranty, no returns" because many of the tires had stamped manufacture dates of 8-10 years old. So they were brand new but old. I had those terms BOLDED and CAPITALIZED and referred to them multiple times in my listing. I had at least 4 buyers leave me negative feedback and file for refunds because the "item not as described". They got ALL their money back including shipping, they got to keep the tire unless I wanted to pay to ship it back and I got my seller rating wrecked. I spent hours on the phone with ebay to no avail.
If you check the googles, reddit, etc - there's an entire class of buyer out there pulling this shit. Essentially getting free stuff.
PS - the manufacture date was included in each listing. And my membership/feedback on Ebay went back to July of 1998 with ZERO negatives before this. I think this was '12 or 13, I don't remember.

Not a killer in some(maybe even most cases), I had a number of scree-printed posters rolled flat for 10+ years and have since gotten them all flat and stored in a large portfolio. Getting them flat from rolled is a long process and you have to be careful because the print can crack depending on how it was made if you do it too fast.

I doubt there are any that are screen printed. Most of these are just everyday posters. IIRC, the only one that's screen printed is a ~20-year-old numbered, artist-signed Flaming Lips poster that's probably about 12"x19" or 11"x17" and I didn't roll that one. I have no idea where in my Rubbermaid storage bins that poster is.
