STAMPEDERS MOURN DEATH OF MYLAN HICKS

The Calgary Stampeders are devastated by the news of the death of team member Mylan Hicks.

Mylan’s life was taken in act of violence early on Sunday morning.

“Obviously this is an extremely difficult and upsetting time for the players and staff,” said Stampeders president and general manager John Hufnagel. “It’s a terrible tragedy. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Mylan’s family.”

“The loss of this 23-year-old young man at this stage of his life and his career is an unfathomable tragedy,” said Ken King, president and CEO of the Calgary Sports and Entertainment Corporation. “Our sympathies to Mylan’s family and to the Stampeders family of players, coaches and staff.”

Hicks was having a profesional football career n the CFL after getting his MSU degree.
All he did was do what a lt of single young men do when he went to a club. But he got shot and killed.

Stamp Mylan Hicks hugged accused killer moments before shooting, says grieving mom

Minutes before he was fatally shot outside a Calgary bar, Calgary Stampeder Mylan Hicks bought the alleged gunman a drink, says his grieving mom.

Renee Hill says she’s heard through police and teammates that her 23-year-old boy was trying to defuse tension inside the Marquee Beer Market, after tempers flared between two groups who would confront each other in the parking lot a short time later — and that included an attempt to calm to alleged killer with a liquid peace gesture.

“He was always so selfless. Apparently Mylan even bought the person a drink and tried to embrace him when he was all riled up,” said Hill.

The Detroit News just published an interview with Mylan's parents--a little over a year since his murder. There are a couple of stories I hadn't heard before about what a good person he was. Understandably, neither his mom nor dad are doing well. It's a pretty emotional read.
