Michigan State football defensive end Shilique Calhoun on Lott Trophy watch list

EAST LANSING — Michigan State rising junior defensive end Shilique Calhoun is one of 42 players who has been named to the Lott IMPACT Trophy Watch List.

The trophy, in its 11th year, goes to the college football defensive player who has the biggest impact on his team both on and off the field.

IMPACT is an acronym for Integrity, Maturity, Performance, Academics, Community and Tenacity.

Calhoun was named the Big Ten's Defensive Lineman of the Year last season, as he spearheaded a defense that finished ranked No. 2 overall in the nation and led the Spartans to a 13-1 season that included the program's first appearance in the Rose Bowl in 26 years.

Calhoun, a first-team All-Big Ten pick and second-team All-American selection, is one of 11 defensive linemen on the watch list and six Big Ten players.

Calhoun tied for second in the NCAA's FBS ranks with four fumble recoveries and tied for the FBS lead with three defensive touchdowns last season.

UCLA's Anthony Barr of UCLA won the Lott Trophy last season (Big Ten players in bold).
