I guess we won't be having Columbus Day in the near future.

East Lansing City Council replaces Columbus Day with Indigenous People's Day

This year instead of Columbus Day, East Lansing will be celebrating a different holiday on Oct. 10 — Indigenous People’s Day.

East Lansing City Council passed a resolution on Tuesday during the council meeting to recognize the holiday on the second Monday of October, replacing Columbus Day.

The resolution follows other cities across the state, such as Ann Arbor and Traverse City, and the country, including Albuquerque, N.M. and Minneapolis, according to the resolution.

First I've heard of this movement.

Considering Columbus never set foot in North America I always thought it was kind of a stupid holiday anyway. I'm sure the remaining Native Americans in Mid-Michigan will be thrilled Rolling Eyes

"Native American" is a stupid term as everyone born here is by definition a native American.
"Indigenous People" is a stupid term as the people that inhabited the Americas before the White Man were not indigenous to the area - they crossed the Bering landbridge during the Ice Age.

The proper term would be Aboriginal Americans.

I'm sorry that the Aboriginal Americans didn't have their shit together back in the day but they didn't and we're not giving back all that land. I'm willing to give them a pass for not having the wheel since they didn't have any draft animals but how can you not have a written language?

Besides we made it up to them by letting them deal blackjack and sell cheap smokes.
