2017 MSU Baseball Schedule

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Michigan State baseball announced its 2017 schedule Wednesday. Head coach Jake Boss, Jr., and the Spartans will open the 2017 season on Friday, February 17 in the first of a 53-game regular-season ledger.

Of the 53 games, 14 of them are against teams that played in last season’s NCAA Tournament.

“We are excited to put together a very competitive schedule, and I think one that has several good RPI opportunities that will hopefully put us in a position at the end of the season for postseason play,” Boss said.

MSU baseball growing with leadership, sights set on Big Ten championship

It’s a scenario likely to have been envisioned by head coach Jake Boss Jr. thousands of times, and one he was so close to last season.

After recording the final out, he would be the first to hoist the Big Ten championship trophy as the team mobs the field. After accepting the team’s award he would hand it off to the Spartan team he led through the 53-game regular season, starting with the seniors then downward chronologically.

The vision is one Boss has lived through before, having led the Spartans to a championship in 2011, and since then has secured consistency in the program and a culture starving to go back.

“We’re tired of being close,” Boss said Friday after the team’s first open practice of the season. “It’s time to take that next step and elevate that program another level.”

Seems impossible that Boss has already been coaching the Spartans that long. Feels like it was only 2-3 years ago.

Spartans Head To Greenville To Kick Off Spring Break Trip

Michigan State baseball kicks off its seven games in 10-day Spring Break trip by heading to Greenville, South Carolina for the eighth-annual First Pitch Invitational Friday-Sunday, March 3-5. MSU will open against Furman on Friday, March 3 at 3 p.m. at Fluor Field, home of the Greenville Drive. On Saturday, March 4, the Spartans will take on Presbyterian in a 12 p.m. first pitch at Latham Stadium, home of Furman. Michigan State wraps up the three-game weekend by taking on UT Martin on Sunday, March 5 at 11 a.m. at Fluor Field. Live stats for MSU's three games will be available with all links found at MSUSpartans.com, with audio and video streaming available for Friday's game, provided by Furman. There will not be any audio or video streaming for Saturday or Sunday's games.
