I'll bet that in a couple years everyone is shocked by how Trump has done. He doesn't want to fail and he's not a rock ribbed conservative. I'll be he makes deals all over to pass legislation and try to move ahead. We'll see.
I will say this. I thought he literally had no chance last night, maybe 10% if that. But this election was an absolute repudiation of exactly what we've seen from my good friend Robert on this board. The politicians, their aides, their newspaper and broadcast buddies, academia, and Democrats in general like to think of those that oppose them as uneducated hicks, knuckle draggers, etc.
Last night was the revenge of the knuckle draggers. Look around Michigan, many of the rural counties went 70% for Trump. If you denigrate Trump voters as backward idiots think very clearly how many good people you're lumping into that. It was a wake up call for people to stop mocking them and start listening to them. Also keep in mind that Trump won college educated whites too and did better among Blacks and Latinos than Romney did. Even that last sentence amazes me.

It somewhat amazes me how many from the left, including celebrities, who used Twitter as a platform to express their opinion that bigoted, misogynistic, rednecks put forth a whitelash in yesterday's vote and want to roll back civil liberties.
This was all about those voters telling the establishment "it's the economy, stupid."

I'm worried about how many civil rights are going to be forfeited over the next 4 years. Fuck the DNC for pushing Hillary as the candidate though. I'm sure they told everyone who was going to run against her, that now it was her time and to back off. Sanders was the only one who didn't listen, and now we have a narcissistic President who bans journalists from press conferences and doesn't respect anyone or anything. Trump doesn't love the US, he loves money and power, now he's got both.Floyd Robertson wrote:

I just don't see the country rolling back the advances that have been made in LGBT and other civil rights. I don't think Congress will it happen, and I deep down I don't think Trump will make it his agenda. I honestly think (and hope) we're going to see a different Trump than we've seen the last 16 months.
The DNC should take blame. Yes, Hillary had some experience, but IMHO she never would have been elected to the Senate, or been appointed SoS if she didn't ride in on Bubba's coattails.
The media an the pundits can also take a lot of blame for lower turnout in areas where democratic support is strongest. People figured she's got this in the bag, they don't need to vote.

All the scare shit comes from the Press/Pundits - they've been wrong about everything on Trump so far maybe they're wrong again?

As far as blame, I only blame Hillary, Obama and the DNC. Trump did what he needed to do.
As to the future, I'm hopeful that Trump will truly act as and outsider and bring the change to Washing that he said he'd bring. I've never believed that he was a Republican (just look at his relationship with the GOP throughout this run), especially on social issues. So as long as he doesn't try to take us backwards on social issues, I'm open to seeing what change he can bring.

The media obviously plays a part in elections, perceptions, whatever..but to keep considering legitimate concerns or ("scare shit") about Trump's presidency is solely a creation of the media?

Yeah, that "honey" shit can fuck off. If elders want youth to respect them maybe they will realize it's a two way street.

Re: Election Game 2016 - The political thread that Travis won't move
I think there's a lot of truth to this. There's a lot of elitism when it comes to discussing politics on both sides. You hear a lot of "that person won because Americans are stupid, don't pay attention, etc." Well, regardless, they're Americans, and each of their votes count just as much as the President's vote. Ignore them at your own risk.LooseGoose wrote:I'll bet that in a couple years everyone is shocked by how Trump has done. He doesn't want to fail and he's not a rock ribbed conservative. Also keep in mind that Trump won college educated whites too and did better among Blacks and Latinos than Romney did. Even that last sentence amazes me.
And I say that as someone who is sick to his stomach that Trump won. I hate politics, and don't care much who wins most elections, but my distaste for him is not political, it's that he's just a vile, horrible human being.
But at the end of the day, Hillary and the Democratic party have only themselves to blame. I saw that Hillary never went to Wisconsin once since the convention, because she thought it was such a lock. She lost that state. She lost much of the rust belt, where she thought she had it locked up, and didn't pay much attention campaigning there. Several of those states were won by Bernie and/or he made a strong challenge in them. You see that and you practically ignore them? Really?
On top of that, you have a party that put forth no other serious contender. It reminded me of when you have a VP run for President when the big guy is no longer eligible. Some others might kind of put up an effort, but all the real money and party power is behind the VP (or in this case Hillary). Whether others were scared to oppose her and the Democratic power brokers, or if they just thought they couldn't win, the party brought it on themselves. It's not just that they practically annointed her the candidate before even having primaries, but they put forth someone with so much baggage. Someone that, while tied to a popular ex-President, may have been too tied to him. What I mean is that after W, I think many are still a little gun shy about letting the Presidency become a family thing (look at how horrible Jeb did in the Republican primaries).
It also has me wondering, if Obama had never appointed her SecState, does she even run for President? She still would have been Senator, so maybe, but if she did without being SecState, she never has the e-mail scandal, never can be tied to Benghazi, Isis, etc. I guess what I'm saying is, THANKS A LOT, OBAMA!

Re: Election Game 2016 - The political thread that Travis won't move
Here's some other reasons why Hillary fucked up, if not in strategy, than just by being herself.
She got LESS of the female vote than Obama got. A fucking woman running for President against a misogynist that has countless quotes on record of him shitting on women....and she still got less females voting for her than the previous Democratic candidate (FWIW, Trump got less than Romney, too, but not by much).
She got 6% fewer 18-29 year olds than Obama got. Fucking millenials.
She got 8% fewer among people earning less than $50K, despite Trump bragging about being rich.
She got 6% fewer Hispanics, despite Trump wanting to ship them the fuck out of the country.
Seriously, blame Hillary, blame the Dem party. They fucked this up, and we all pay the price.
