Dantonio: 15 reasons why we sucked.

#14 WBH has pointed out after he said it that perhaps changes are coming schematically. I agree.

Here's why we sucked.

3. Preseason attrition on the DL.

No QB that played this past year really stood out. Lewerke got the job by sucking the least. Being sidelined by a major injury doesn't bode well going into next year.

True, but that can be said for Cook also. He didn't actually distinguish himself in the three-way competition, but things turn out all right.

The truth is that Lewerke is the only one of the three who can stretch the field with his arm. Seems to be fairly accurate as well. But that injury was a killer. He really needed the development heading into next season

I got it from watching Lewerke on the field king. That's what you do when you have limited stats as you say. He starts against Michigan .. well don't even get me started. O'Connor was dogshit and still somehow kept the job until when?

In general I'm with you - best players play if that's DeWeaver or Lewerke. No more O'Connors or maxwells. (Aka Terry)

Terry wasn't a wasted scholarship. While I figured he'd need his redshirt and RS freshman year he's also been injured a lot. Knee, shoulder and the latest being concussed which is a long term issue. He was a leader and winner in HS but he also was in an offense that took advantage of his skill set. At MSU i think Terry has been a round peg the OC's have kept trying to pound into a square hole.

Meanwhile Leweke played in an offense closer to the pro set MSU uses. Too early to know if deWeaver and Lombardi can folow suit.

Yep. He might have been a dual threat QB in high school but Dantonio was always going to put him into his system with the added threat of good legs.

Thing is, it's my opinion a HS dual threat QB seems to drop their eyes more once in college when you put them back in the pocket. I think with Lewerke DeWeaver and Lombardi you have a pro style guy who can also run better. Face it though QBs like Cousins and Cook don't grow on trees. I wonder if our fan base is spoiled to the point of thinking Dantonio can just magically produce NFL QBs. Cook Cousins and Hoyer are rare birds and we were pretty lucky to have three who had that type of vision and moxie.

All I know is that Terry was pass-first in HS. He only had 100 carries his senior season (for 6.7 per) so it was 75/25 pass to run.

I just think Terry was a wasted scholarship. Lot of hype when he signed, but never saw him do anything even close to great, or even good.

In any case, our only options for next year are Lewerke and Deweaver.

completely agree, while is why i am oppose to running a system that requires an nfl prospect.
