Invasion is inevitable. Best to rename the damn thing and sell it globally as a delicacy.

If we can't drive them out, perhaps we can breed them out.

Coulda shoulda woulda and how other states view the Great Lakes.

Could have not allowed importing the carp in the first place but powerful pols were in the hip pocket of agra-business helped the cat fish farming business.

Would have had stricter rules about securing ponds where the carp was introduced but many of the same pols who helped the fish farmers also like to rail on about burdensome regulations.

After it was clear the carp had begun to take over portions of US waterways thete was no political will by either party to invest in eradication efforts because of costs and fear of slowing commercial Great Lakes shipping.

Its not important nationally. Regionally we view the Great Lakes in multiple ways from recreation to commerce. There are powerful people who see them as giant sources of fresh water that can be transported via pipeline to high population / low water states like Texas and Arizona.

ghost will take care of the problem by the time he finally crosses Lake Michigan.

I would like to see a massive fish kill throughout the Illinois River and reintoduce native species after the kill continues in the Mississippi.

They are bony but the meat is much different that common carp (which they are not even remotely related to). If properly prepared they are actually very good.

Perhaps we could genetically modify some sharks that would survive in fresh water and feed exclusively on asian carp. There shouldn't be any harm in that.

Silver carp found nine miles from Lake Michigan: Triggers more looking

IDK when someone started calling them silver carp.

CHICAGO, IL – The Illinois Department of Natural Resources and the Asian Carp Regional Coordinating Committee (ACRCC) today announced the preliminary finding of 1 silver carp in the Illinois Waterway below T.J. O’Brien Lock and Dam, approximately nine miles away from Lake Michigan. The fish was captured with a gill net by a contracted commercial fisher the morning of June 22 as part of the ACRCC Monitoring Response Work Group’s seasonal intensive monitoring event. The silver carp was 28 inches in length and weighed approximately 8 pounds. The fish has been sent to Southern Illinois University for additional analysis.

Why hasn't somebody figured a way to eradicate them yet?
