Top 50 fast food items in America
http://fastfood.theringer.com/
Thoughts on the list? I haven't ever been to In-And-Out, Shake Shack, Whataburger, and a couple of the others, and I've only had Chik-fil-A once or twice, so I don't have first hand experience, but I think they made kind of a shitty list. I'm not sure exactly what their criteria for "fast food" is. Donuts, but no pizza/Chinese? Too many deserts, a fucking pretzel, and too many options from the same places that are too similiar (Chicken Sandwich, Spicy Chicken Sandwich, and Spicy Chicken Deluxe Sandwich all from Chik-fil-A is absurd). I also think the crunchy tacos from Taco Bell are about the least interesting thing to order at Taco Bell, but maybe that's just me.
What are your top 3/5/10?
And, Bob, go ahead and hit us with your stats, we all know it's coming.

In and Out is wildly overrated, always remember that when you hear people ranting about it.

Regarding criteria, what would you all say qualifies something as fast food? To me, it can't be fast food without a drive-thru window. I suppose I could be talked out of that with a compelling example or two, but that's something off the top of my head that seems to distinguish pretty well at first blush.

As I said, I've only had Chik-fil-A once or twice, and I don't remember what I had but I'm pretty sure it was before they even offered the spicy, so I've never had it. But I struggle to believe that it's better than Wendy's Spicy Chicken. I don't know what numbers 2-infinity are on my list, but I know Wendy's Spicy Chicken is my #1. That sandwich is my bottom bitch.

You haven't tried the Chick Fil A spicy chicken sandwich. Recently I had a Wendy's spicy chicken sandwich (hadn't been there in probably 5-7 years) and it was below average. And this is a brand new, super nice Wendy's. Chick Fil A is owned by religious nuts who only hire super clean cut people and there are incredibly strict policies in place for franchise owners in order to maintain quality. Chick and In N Out are probably the best managed fast food places in the USA. Really the only two places I ever go -
I've had disappointing Spicy Chickens before myself (the freshness/quality of all fast food declines quickly if it sits around a while waiting to be ordered), and I haven't had one in months anyway. Even if I cared enough to do an A/B comparison, I don't live anywhere near a Chik-fil-A, and I'm certainly not taking a fast-food based road trip.

Popeyes > KFC, so I was fine with that aspect. I agree that there were many things in front of KFC that I would generally not choose over KFC.

Popeyes over KFC isn't even close. I'd rank Lee's Famous and Church's over them too.

Everything at Fives Guys is overrated and overpriced. Terribly soggy fries and shitty buns that fall apart halfway through eating the burger.
Can't think of a more disgusting breakfast item than the McGriddle.

I distinctly remember having one once and really liking it. The last time I had one though, I just remember being disappointed that I didn't get a McMuffin instead. In a world where the McMuffin exists, the McGriddle is superfluous.

It's not enough better than KFC to ever merit going out of your way to try it, but I don't think I've ever talked to anyone who has tried both and would say that KFC is better.

I've not tried that many of the fried chicken chains. I'd imagine there are a great many non-chain local places virtually everywhere that have better chicken than any of these chains for a similar price at a similar speed. There are multiple places in and around Lansing that advertise their "crack chicken" that I've never gotten around to trying.

Disagree. Would take KFC original recipe over Popeyes, Church's, Chicken Shack, etc anytime.LooseGoose wrote:Cameron wrote:

btw...Arby's has a new sandwich called Meat Mountain. Every meat they sell for $10.
They have an even stranger sandwich called the Denali, which adds a fish filet to the Meat Mountain.

Re: Top 50 fast food items in America
Chick fil a spicy chicken is unquestionably better than Wendy's. It's not about the heat, though I would say both are relatively even in that regard. The chicken is just much better quality and tastier. Chick fil a is pretty darned good. I do like their waffle fries.
Not a huge fast food guy but a few other opinions.
Cajun fries at five guys are good. Is that really a fast food joint though? I wouldn't say so.
I think the fries at Checker's/Rally's are awesome.
In N Out. I really like. I'm not a sauce guy if you recall. So I don't do the animal style bullshit. But good fast food burger (not great, but better than other fast food bullshit) and good fries.
Whataburger is really good, underrated.
I only eat McD's, BK, Arby's, Wendy's etc if I'm fucking desperate. Never ever would I crave anything from any of those joints other than possibly a Hi-C Orange from McD's.
Taco Bell is acceptable when drunk but those days are behind me.

Any of you old guys remember a chicken franchise around Lansing back in the 70s/80s? Only like 3 or 4 all around the area, but it had some pretty good bird. They also sold quarts of breaded/fried livers and gizzards, which sounds kind of nasty to me now but was pretty tasty back when I was a growing lad.
Edit: Never mind. I think it was called Famous Recipe.

I still like chicken Livers and you may be thinking of Lee's....because it's Lee's Famous Recipe.. And gHost is right that In and Out is good, but still overrated. I've had fast food probably 10 times in the past year so I'm not an expert anymore. From about 2008-2013 I lived on fast food from all over the country for 22-25 days a month. I was pretty partial to Carl's Jr/Hardees although I know a lot of people disagree with me on that one.
For Pylon - ALL LEE'S LOCATIONS looks like 6 locations in Michigan.
