I miss Founders. With that said, there are a shit ton of options out here as well. I still have a lot of brewery hopping to do.
Although, I miss Bell's Two Hearted the most. Parents brought a shit ton out here when they visited.
I'm starting to try to get away from drinking piss beer all the time. Grabbed some Founders Centenniel IPA last weekend and enjoyed it..that stuff will put you on your ass too. Similar to Two Hearted. Still a total rookie when it comes to this stuff though..anyone have a 6 pack recommendation?

WBH...try Delirium Tremens or Kwak. I usually only see these in 750ml bottles (looks like a wine bottle)
Both are Belgium ales and are strong but outstanding.
Cheers!

If it has to be an IPA try and find Bedlam. Its a Belgian IPA from Ale Asylum in Madison, WI.

Been drinking Moon Man from New Glarus Brewing Company. Great pale ale that I'd recommend picking up if you're ever in Wisconsin.

Try Founders Mosaic Promise, single hop, single malt, pretty tasty, but I'm partial to Mosaic hops.

Had been a big fan of Griffin Claw's Gateway session for a couple years. That has changed.
Not sure WTF they are doing to it now. Comes in 15-packs like Founders All Day. Can put one of those 15 packs in the fridge for days and then carefully open one. Spews out the top almost like someone shook it up a little. Someone at Griffin Claw is fucking up and I'm no longer recommending Gateway.

My corner store got 7 cases of Hopslam (in cans again this year). Got a 6 tonight. Hope to get another 6 tomorrow night when the owner is there.
Stuff is room temp. Gonna let one chill in the freezer for 20 minutes before cracking it.

Went to Holiday Market in RO Saturday to look for it. Their beer/wine/liquor guy told me they got an entire pallet last Wednesday and it sold out in 2 hours. Said they won't be getting anymore. Said he checked Meijer and Kroger locations around here and it's all gone.tGreenWay wrote:The Pantry wrote:My corner store got 7 cases of Hopslam (in cans again this year). Got a 6 tonight. As serious as this place can be:
Is there a definition for a "craft brewer"
Not long ago it was easier to define but outfits like ABinBEV and SB Miller are buying up smaller independents. SamAdams has national distribution with its major bottling in Cincinnati. New Belgium has bottling in CO and NC.

It has something to do with how many barrels are produced each year. Like "small batch" for hard liquor. Wisconsin has hundreds of craft brewers that are all independent. If owned by a conglomerate I would say that brewer is no longer craft.

Re: Craft beer
You're correct, their is an annual barrel production limit set by the Craft Brewers Assoc. It is about 5 barrels more than Sam Adams makes in a year, and that's not a coincidence.CheesySpartan wrote:GRR Spartan wrote:As serious as this place can be:

I personally don't GAS, but I think the new batch of Oberon makes its debut on Monday. Not that it matters much anymore, given that it's available for most of the year.

Bingo. Plus, if people say it tastes best with an orange, you're brewing it wrong. See also: Blue Moon.

I ended up with two four packs. Stopped at a store on the way home the other day and they had 4 pack sitting on the counter so I grabbed it. Went to Kroger later that same day and they had six or seven four packs sitting in the cooler so I grabbed another one.

I am weird and don't understand the big deal about KBS.
The Canadian maple stout Founder's makes is just as good if not better IMO. I guess I just don't really love dark beers that much and prefer pale ales and the like.

The first store was $28, Kroger was $24.

I actually don't drink much beer, so I'm able to enjoy a bottle here and there without seeing an impact on my weight. Yeah, they're filling, which is why I usually only drink the one on nights I'm thirsty for a brew. Parties are another story and I'll reach for something lighter, like a Two-Hearted or Sam Adams.

Re: Craft beer
Former MSU football player is in the Michigan craft beer game — and winning
DEXTER, MI -- Surrounded by wooden oak barrels, plastic hoses and a lingering hint of wet-basement staleness, Tony Grant is giddy.
Making beer – especially the sour variety – is an exact science, and the former Michigan State football player is talking about fermentation, bacteria and natural carbonation.
“We just let Mother Nature do her thing. We don’t fake the funk,” said Grant, standing inside a 25,000-square foot warehouse at the Northern United Brewing Company building in southeast Dexter. “Sour beers the next ‘big thing.’”
Northern United is the company that produces brands like North Peak, Nomad, Civilized, Grizzly Peak and Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales. Grant is the CEO.
And he loves to talk about craft beer. He has an engineering background, and it doesn’t take much prompting to release the nerd inside.
"He will take people for tours and talk about the tanks, equipment and history behind it all,” said Angela Grant, Tony’s wife of nearly seven years. “When I go with him, I blank 10 minutes in and am bored. He is so fascinated by it. It blows my mind how much he learned about it.”
And in just a few years. Tony Grant left a job as a director of Owens Corning behind in 2012 to join six partners in the micro-brew business.
