Before yesterday, not really. Now? 50/50. If the house flips power to the democrats in 2018, 90/10. Or maybe Trump will stop treating his position like he's a casino owner by then.

Trump gets a door to leave. He can use his health which is doubtful. The GOP still tolerates him and they control all three branches. They are raising money as is Trumps campaign as the victim party again.

Depends on Comey's testimony. I don't think an obstructing justice charge could be brought just based on what has been said so far.
But, when you combine it with Trump firing Comey...maybe.
Comey would have to light him up when he testifies. If he does, it's open season.

He said he said if it's a memo. No way it can be used to impeach

Symbolic gesture at this point. I really don't get it. Let's hear from Comey 1st. I guess it does put Ryan in a tricky spot. Does he allow the vote and make all the R's vote no and have them on record "putting party over country"?

Comey is going to testify though.
Although I think an FBI memo can be used as evidence. I think there is some precedent for that.

"As the New York Times notes, these memos “are widely held up in court as credible evidence of conversations.” The Times pointed to that famous incident back during the George W. Bush administration when Comey testified that there had been a race to reach the bedside of an ill Attorney General John Ashcroft as the FBI and senior White House officials fought over warrantless wiretapping. When the White House disputed Comey's version, then-FBI Director Robert Mueller's contemporaneous notes were used as confirmation."

Re: Gut feeling: do you believe there will be an impeachment?
It depends on what happens in next year. If the house turns, articles of impeachment will be drafted and he will be impeached. But that doesn't mean removed from office or even convicted. The required supermajority to do that is not feasible right now. Things could change and he could go all Mussolini and get enough Rs on board. More likely the current investigations will drum up enough dirt that he'll find a reason to resign. I think if he had an excuse that would hold water he'd do it now.

Yes.
His support is cracking and he's too unhinged for the job. Once he loses support of Repubs in congress he's toast.

They're just hearing from constituents that make them question how faithful they should be to the sexual predator. They support everything he's done and continues to do - but they also want to retain their power, money and mistresses/girlfriends next November.

Not yet, but I think it will happen. Chaffetz subpoenaing the Comey letter and McCain comparing this to Watergate might open the door for more. The Comey firing and the latest Russia gaffe in the Oval Office had to of unnerved a lot in the Repub side. I constantly read behind closed doors they are expressing a lot of concern. All of this damage he is doing to his presidency is self inflicted. I think it's just a matter of time...

an immoral sleaze like Chaffetz might use his sudden sense of ethics and morality to promote his next career. We'll see.steveschneider wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:he's not losing their support.

I have no faith in McCain - he'll do his usual round on the mainstream media circuit.. with a furled brow talking about how concerned he is.. maybe do the "tsk tsk" thing with the sexual predator and take away his TV time.. but he's proven over and over again that he's nothing but a lapdog.

Perhaps, but I think the door is opened for more people to come out against him. All you hear about is shouting and infighting in the Whitehouse. Also, the secrets he spilled in the WH to his Russian comrades came from Israel and I'm assuming they were less than thrilled with that.
It's clear he's unfit for the job. This is on par with the John L. Smith hire.

Not if you only watch Fox News. Then you hear none of that. Which circles back to why his support isn't really eroding... he has his own news network to protect him and a solid 30% of the country is intodctrinated by it.

Fox news ratings are taking a hit. Tucker has half the ratings of O'reilly. The big question is who will go first Tucker or Trump?

Re: Gut feeling: do you believe there will be an impeachment?
I think that Republicans will turn on him at some point if things continue to come out. They're going to watch the mood in their districts. You can say what you want about the blind base, but in battleground districts, the Republican base isn't going to be enough to win you an election by themselves (or else it wouldn't be a battleground district). They're going to need those neutrals. As things stand now, they will need Trump's support in the midterms. But that's still 18 months away. That's a LOT of time for more issues with Trump to pile up, especially at the pace he's going. Ultimately, the Republicans, especially in those battleground districts, are going to go whichever way the wind is blowing 18 months from now.
Of course, if those winds become a gale, I don't think they'll hesitate to jump ship on Trump sooner. If it gets bad enough where he resigns, and they stuck by him, they're fucked in the midterm. For now, the storm can still be weathered. But it seems unlikely that there is a calm on the horizon, and more likely that these are just the outer bands of a massive hurricane.
