I don't think the Tigers are a priority to this generation of Ilitches.and they can make more than a $1B pofit if they sell.

Once GRR gets his mind locked on something the facts can be damned. Mr I has been dead for a few months, no payroll has been cut and yet he's determined the Tigers aren't a priority anymore to the Illitches.

It's pretty difficult to trim payroll during the season. Most money is guaranteed.

The Forbes 2017 valuation of MLB teams puts Detroit @ $1.2B / #18, a 4% gain from 2016.

The Pirates were #17 valued at $1.25B a 21% increase over 2016. The Orioles came in the #19 spot $1.18B, 18% over previous year. When your team's value is up 4% and the teams on either side value grew 5 and 4 times as much there is reason to think the value is close to maxing out.

The MLB still has no salary cap. It doesn't have the predictability of the NHL.

As opposed to the new arena which Olympia controls and has booked for the Red Wings, new tenant Pistons and multiple concert dates, Comerica has limited dual use options. A big place with expensive up keep and months sitting empty.

I can see a different scenario if the MLB gets a salary cap means keeping the team is more probable.
