Those seats the announcers are in are pretty cool. You can just have those, they aren't tickets. So, if you ever happen to be at a game early without decent seats elsewhere, go to the left field bar and see if you can grab one of those.

Unless it's a game I'm at early also. Then fuck you.

How did Tigers backup catcher Alex Avila become one of the best hitters around (for now)?

“The ball is just finding the holes,” Avila said. “I haven’t changed anything, really.”

Avila leads the major leagues with a .380 batting average (for hitters with at least 75 plate appearances). Granted, it’s not a huge sample size, but his stats have been so good that they are impossible to ignore.

On Sunday night, Avila reached base three times in a 5-2 loss to Texas, giving him a .494 on base percentage, which also leads the major leagues.

So how do you explain this?

How did a backup catcher, who hasn’t hit over .243 in the last six years, suddenly become a hitting machine?

I'm stunned he has that kind of an arm. With a bullpen that ranks towards the bottom of the league it is hard to argue with bringing him up.

He did give up a run in 1 IP. I'm sure he needs some work. 99 isn't gonna cut it in the bigs if it's straight and he can't locate it.

Agreed. They will use up their 2 or 3 decent relievers, and have to bring in K Rod or another schlep and will get walked off.
