You city pussies want pics? I know the dream cruise, fireworks, kid rock, and lots of other pavement festivals are going on but thought you might want pics of what a real man does that don't include cement and shitty music. Goose, Nordic, Bob, and Tty obviously excluded since they know real man shit.
Thoughts?

Full disclosure. I'm sitting in a dealership adding up lies and watching bullshit pile up so I feel like taking it out on others.

In high school a buddy and I would camp at the East Branch of the Fox River. Suppossed to be great for brookies. We never caught shit, but we spent most of our time pike/bass fishing in the lakes up there.
Sweet place to camp though.

Only fished the fox a couple times. Try to stay away, sometimes it's busy. We like hiking and finding streams nobody would venture too. We got a honey hole in Alger county that a decent hike down steep ridge. Tough walk but limit out pretty quickly.

Went fishing on the Pere Marquette a couple years ago, found a nice hole while drift fishing and marked it with my gps so I could find it later. Walked to it the next year down this steep bank, probably 100 feet down or so. Get to the bottom and a bunch of kids are swimming in it. They got there from the other side where the bank was non-existent. The climb back up the hill wasn't fun.

Michigan is flat. How fucking difficult could any hiking possibly be there?
Spent all of your time in SoMichigan, eh? It's not Colorado but you can get into some hills in the UP and Northern lower.

I wonder if he knows that's pictured rock area (Alger-Munising). It's about 1200 ft peak.

Be sure to bring a few sweet rolls from The Hill Top and put them in a backpack on shore while you fish.
Black bears gotta eat too.
And of course, match the hatch

Make sure to pick up pasties from Lehtos on US2 on the way there or gonna have to drive to Marquette to get better. The best are over 100 miles past Marquette in the Keweenaw.kingstonlake wrote:DWags wrote:

1,200 feet is not very high. Okay, I get that it's rugged terrain but come on, it's pretty much all fucking flat. If I can do 6,000 feet down into the Grand Canyon and 5,000 feet up over 24 miles in 110 degree temps in 8-10 then I'd fucking wreck that UP.
Awesome!!

Pretty solid hike! Some of the hardest hiking I've done are remote streams. No trails. Scaling ridges and navigating dead fall. You're standing on a tree and it's a 15ft drop to the next spot. Sucks dude. Ran out of drinking water once. Found a spring. It was a god send.

And wolves and coyotes that aren't scared of humans. I have heard from a couple guys that the coyotes and wolves listen for gunshots and track down the deer before the hunters can.Nordic wrote:gHost Spartan wrote:

A few weeks ago we hiked a mountain in the Adirondacks. Lots of scrambling, no clear trail, pretty much everything that you mentioned but it was a 4700 foot mountain not a hill. All I'm saying is that I could do that shit in my sleep. Two weeks ago I hiked 10 miles through a stream at Havasu Falls. I find that much easier than elevation.
Yeah, but did you bring home dinner?

Flash floods kill a lot of people out West. The problem is that it could be bright sunshine where you're at but 10-15 miles away there's a huge monsoon and the water comes barreling down the canyon. I should post some pics from the flash flood we experienced in Supai a few years ago. We had to climb 175 feet up chains in torrential rain with lighting everywhere or risk being washed down the creek. The video I have is pretty intense.
Too old for it now but loved white-water rafting in West Virginia. Huge adrenaline rush at times.
