Being born in Detroit and raised in the metro area, the city will always be special to me.  I live on the west side of the state now, but I was in Detroit 2 weeks ago for a conference.  I couldn't believe how much different downtown is now compared to 20+ years ago when I was downtown frequently for concerts and Wings games.  I walked from the Rencen to Legends and then back to MGM and felt safe the entire time.  I was truly and hapiply surprised.

I forgot to mention I took the walk by myself. Yes, I went to Legends by myself after getting stuck with the bar bill and all my coworkers had already left the Rencen. And yes, I understand that I'm a perv...

I've always liked Detroit better than Chicago. I agree with the coolest city in the Midwest claim.

You should take a swing by sometime. Lots of changes since then. I can't imagine someone spending a weekend there now and coming up with a review that is something worse than "yeah it's fine" ranging on up to "wow it's pretty nice." The range there is a matter of opinion, but shithole it is not.

There was ping pong and basketball in the middle of the city. That was neat. Went to that bell isle place. Atwater brewery. Some different bars. It was neat.

I have removed Nigel and Death Roe from ignore and added Greenway.

Work buddy of mine moved out of the area 20 years ago and had to take a trip to our downtown office last month. Before the trip the guy actually asked me if he needed a gun and how close he could park to the office. Chose to stay with his sister in the burbs instead of letting the company pay for a downtown hotel... Once he came up he was absolutely floored by how nice downtown was. Couldn't stop talking about how much he liked it. Anyone that hasn't been there in awhile really should give it another shot.
