The Xavier Tillman Appreciation thread.
I love this kid for being a stand up Dad and a good man. I know I couldn't have handled all of that
AND play B1GTen basketball at 18.
Now if Izzo would stop beating the living hell out of him we'll get to appreciate him for a couple more years.

He looked like he had fun last night. I'm sure starting next year he will foul out in the first 20 seconds, but they will be a great 20 seconds.

I was worried when Ed Martin started sniffing around late in his recruitment, but he stuck with the good guys.

Within a year or so he'll be built like Al but I think he's more skilled.

Might need to start a Kenny Goins one as well. If he can keep hitting shots like that look out.

When Xavier Tillman left home to go to MSU he told his dad "you're the man of the house now."

High praise from TheBlackDudeWithGlasses
Couch: Xavier Tillman giving us a glimpse of Michigan State's future at center
High praise from TheBlackDudeWithGlasses
“He’s probably the best screener on the team,” added assistant coach Mike Garland. “And defensively, he’s as good as we have — on ball-screens, everything. When he first got here, he didn’t know the coverages. He didn’t have a clue. (He’s been good) since Christmas, because he’s so smart. He’s one of the smartest players that we’ve had. I know Draymond had a high basketball IQ. This kid’s is high, it’s high. It’s just like Draymond’s.”
That’s high praise, obviously. Keep in mind, Green averaged 3.3 points and 2.2 rebounds in 11.4 minutes as a freshman at MSU. Tillman is at 2.7 and 2.3 in eight minutes per game.
Garland wasn’t done.
“He handles the ball well, passes it well. He sees things on both sides of the ball, and he’s willing to do the dirty work.”

Keep this kid in mind, now the #1 big man off the bench as a FR - ahead of Goins, Schilling and Carter all former starters.
The future is bright.

He fits better with Jackson/Bridges than Ward does.

I generally don't root for players to leave early for the NBA, but I hope X does if it's a) what he chooses to do and if b) he's ready.Cameron wrote:Cameron wrote:By next year, I think he'll be better than Ward.

I think he's going to be good enough for a team to keep him on their roster and he won't have to pack his family up every year and move from here to there or to Europe. This kid deserves to be rewarded. Great father by all accounts, never asked for under the table money when so many families do. Good student, great rep of our University, and oh yeah, He's pretty damn good in basketball. He will be a huge loss for Izzo and the team next year.

Saw him play his senior year at GRC vs. Kalamazoo Central and Isaiah Livers. Was fun to watch them going at it and the Fieldhouse was packed.
