Net Neutrality Is Official Dead..
shout out to rich white men for making work, community outreach, education and all other aspects of life more difficult for rural, inner-city, poorer, already disenfranchised Americans.
America is already stupid.. it's now becoming more stupid and more third world.

I don’t know when this all started out a few years back I remember on the old message board people were arguing against me in favor of killing off net neutrality. I don’t get why people won’t fight for their own Interests but whatever. I’m not shocked this was killed off.

We'll se what happens now. I'm not too worried yet, but seems to me anytime you give up a freedom to someone who is already making a shit ton of money, that maybe just maybe eventually they'll want to make more and use the control and power given to them to do just that. Maybe I'm over thinking this.

it's designed to a) make money, b) squash free speech and c) disenfranchise the most vulnerable among us.DWags wrote:We'll se what happens now. Unless Democrats win the US Senate and The White House this is the new reality.
Give it a year and those of us who've cut our cable bill by 50% going to a streaming service are going to find prices at or more than we were paying as the cable as they meter our streaming from all providers except themselves.

Completely missed the point, but whatever. Right now, there are much more significant battles to wage. Trump is handing the keys to the country to his puppet master Putin.

Millions Of Comments About The FCC's Net Neutrality Rules Were Fake. Now The Feds Are Investigating.
Drain the swamp.
The rule enjoyed broad public support, according to multiple polls, and required a period of public comment before Pai's change could go into effect. More than 20 million comments have since appeared on the site, with the New York attorney general’s office estimating that up to 9.5 million of those were filed in people’s names without their consent.

Jesus. That’s like smoking one pack of cigarettes and telling us “look, no cancer yet”. I actually love that nativity. I’d hold off judgement just yet.

It hasn't happened yet so that means it will never happen, even though it already did which is why we had the rule in the first place.

Another reminder that all of you lemmings fell for this too...
One Year Ago Today, the FCC Killed the Internet
One Year Ago Today, the FCC Killed the Internet
One year ago today, the Federal Communications Commission killed the internet.
Except the internet didn't really die—quite the opposite, in fact—when the FCC voted down party lines to end the series of regulations known as "net neutrality."
Despite the overwrought warnings and fearful pleas of advocates for greater government regulation of the world wide web, the past 12 months have not seen a rise in evil cable companies slowing consumers' internet connections or the creation of an online dystopia where only those who can plop down fat stacks of cash to pay for premium connections can have fun.
Everything you love about the internet will be ruined, we were told. "The illegal music you downloaded on Napster or Kazaa. The legal music you've streamed on Spotify. The countless hours of pornography you've watched. The movies and TV shows you've binged on Netflix and Amazon and Hulu. The dating site that helped you find the person you're now married to. All of these things are thanks to net neutrality." Except all those things existed before net neutrality was implemented in 2015 and—shocker!—it all still exists today (well not Kazaa, but no one misses Kazaa).
It was going to be very bad. "Try this scenario on for size: You wake up, reach for your phone, and head to your favorite news site to check the headlines. But instead of the latest news, you see a message from your cellphone carrier: 'This site is not available. Please upgrade to our deluxe package to access it.'"
Has that happened to you in the past 12 months?
The net neutrality fear-mongering is worth remembering because of how widespread, mainstream, and self-assured it was. The front page of CNN.com called the FCC's vote "The end of the internet as we know it," but I just checked and CNN.com is still there, somehow. The same is true of The New York Times' website, where you can still find an op-ed declaring that repealing net neutrality would be the "final pillow in [the internet's] face."
Bunk. All of it. Internet speeds have increased by 40 percent during 2018, according to a recent report by Recode.

Once again goose, do you really think that it would happen in a year? Do you think the egg heads wouldn’t keep increasing speed? Don’t you think we should give it two whole fiscal cycles just to see? You seed power over to megacorporations and believe they won’t act in their best interest for stock holders?
If you believe that, at least square this circle for me:
One thread goose: mods won’t give up power over the board, it’s the human nature not to
Other thread goose: corporations will not use their power corruptly, they will be benevolent.
How’s the stock market doing for the year?

Let's see - pulled out of PAris and our emissions went down even with a booming economy.
"Killed" the internet and we went from 12th to 7th in speed.
Russian collusion was a lie - well - except for AGAINST the Republican in Alabama.

Re: Net Neutrality Is Official Dead..
it's easy to get bogged down in the hate, paranoia, racism and bigotry that the GOP feeds on these days, but elections do matter - and because the good guys won in November of last year, Net Neutrality still has a chance.
granted, the GOP wants to disenfranchise the most marginal among us - those that will rely on the internet for work, education, art, creativity, etc - so they want to make certain they continue to do damage to America.. but elections do matter and without November of 2018, we wouldn't be this far.

Re: Net Neutrality Is Official Dead..
The FCC's and Chairman Ajit Pai's Client Advosory Commitee will include Jonathon Hauenschild from ALEC. ALEC is the very probusiness outfit that writes pattern legislation whose members on the legislative side are exclusively Republicans. In this case ALEC's job is to be the mouthpiece for Xfinity, Spectrum, Cox and other cable/internet providers. (Xfinity and Spectrum have 78% of cable subscribers while Cox has 7%)
ALEC will fight to keep local municipalities, municipal power providers and independent fiber companies like LightSpeed breaking up the Big Two oligopoly.
From the link:
FCC Chairman Ajit Pai announced his Client Advisory Committee’s new make-up on Wednesday. One new member is Jonathon Hauenschild, director of ALEC’s Process Power on Communications and Generation. He and different Client Advisory Committee will serve two-year phrases.
ALEC writes fashion state regulations and urges state legislatures to undertake them, and it has helped persuade about 20 states to pass laws that make it tricky or inconceivable for towns and cities to provide broadband provider.
Hauenschild, who wrote on Twitter that he is “taking a look ahead to serving to advise the FCC on user issues,” has informed the FCC in filings that it will have to forestall regulating internet neutrality and preempt state and local broadband laws. He is argued that California’s internet neutrality regulation is “disastrous.” At the matter of municipal broadband, he argued that states will have to be sure that municipalities have “attempted all different choices prior to launching a municipal community together with public-private partnerships.
