I got a 22 on my ACT
Apparently you need at least a 22 on your ACT across the board to get into the education program. I got 23-24 on the reading and writing portion but a 19 on the math part. Sales it is then

I don’t remember thats the thing. I just remember it being uneven. Like 23 on writing, 22 on math and 21 on reading. They do make exceptions apparently though

I mostly remember. Know math/science. Know the scores I got for the two ?reading/english? parts but don't remember which score went with what part

One of my friends in HS, super studious and smart and talented, got a fucking 17 the first time.
It's true, standardized tests are shit. All they test is how good you are at taking tests, which I always had a talent for, being a born bullshitter.

you're correct - and that's the funny thing about it. I don't remember what I got on the SAT or ACT - but I did just fine because I've always been a good test taker.Rocinante wrote:One of my friends in HS, super studious and smart and talented, got a fucking 17 the first time.

I do remember graduating from high school with a 2.7, though - because I was a total slacker who was more interested in beer and music than I was day-to-day school work. .

That's funny. I was right there with you. I would have never gotten in to MSU if I hadn't gone to LCC and aced all my classes there. I was also a legacy which used to mean something.

yep... I hear ya. I'm sure the only reason I got admitted out of anywhere out of high school was because of standardized testing.. so it worked out for me, anyway.Rocinante wrote:Robert J Sakimano wrote:

looking back on it, I was pretty annoying (hard to imagine, I know) - I remember my middle school/high school teachers always liking me (I've always had a magnetic personality) but they were also easily frustrated with me because I just didn't care that much about school.
I straightened out some as I got older.. but not a lot.

I had a 2.1 GPA. Got into MSU strictly on ACT score. I recall my parents asking me why I didn’t have a better gpa. I think they thought I cheated. Maybe I got a few answers off of somebody but I don’t remember.

I went all of fourth grade without missing a single word on our spelling tests. It was then that I knew I was bound for glory. MSU was the only school I wanted and I was not going to be denied.

this story is 100% true:
we were doing the school spelling bee in elementary school - each classroom would have a representative at the assembly in front of the whole school. I was one of two people standing.. trying to earn the coveted spot for the classroom.. and I intentionally misspelled the word because I didn't want to stand on stage in front of 200-300 people spelling words.
I swear I had forgotten all about that until I read your post.. it was probably 4th or 5th grade.

Better than me. I was in the pool to start spelling words and then walked out before I got to my first one. I don't think I was ever in front of a crowd like that before. Freaked me out.

Re: I got a 22 on my ACT
We didn't do our first spelling bee until I think 7th grade. I was a pretty good speller but I wanted no part of it. When it was my turn I repeated the word (let's pretend it was book) and then went something like "Z X W P R Q". The teacher hated me for other incidents and she informed me that this was not allowed and I had to "try". So I said "Fine. Book. B-O-O-C-K. Book." She was thoroughly disgusted with me and told me to go sit down.

I had the same reaction when I was about 7 and learned I would have to play what I learned in piano lessons in front of everyone at a recital. Never went back for another lesson.

I spelled a word wrong on purpose when there were 2 of us left. Winner went to the "5th grade regional spelling bee" or whatever and I wanted no part of that. I spelled "vaporize" as "vaporice"

love these stories about how we all threw the spelling bee.. aspiring to mediocrity.
maybe that should be the official slogan of tSwill - "Aspiring to Mediocrity"...

I got a 31, both my kids got 33 and my wife found her school crap awhile back and had gotten a 31 too.
I had a 2.7 HS GPA but 4 years in the USN with the test score got me into MSU and ended up with a 3.5 something. Guess all those teachers in K-12 were right when they said I wasn't working like I cared.
At my house it could be all A's and 1 B- or C+ and all you'd hear about was the bottom grade from my mother. Since you were going to catch hell if you weren't damned near perfect I checked out. Come home with an A, some B's maybe a C and batten down the hatches for a week or two until the storm passed.

What's the highest score?
I honestly do not remember what I scored, just that my math and science were much higher than whatever the other categories were/are.

Had a really bad Fall term junior year. Looking back, I should have dropped a couple classes.
