President Donald Trump tweeted his condolences to the victims early Sunday morning, but incorrectly initially stated that the explosions killed "at least 138 million people" when multiple reports said hundreds had been killed. The inaccurate tweet stayed up for about 20 minutes before it was deleted and a new statement was issued with the same pledge to help, and the accurate number of casualties.

Heartfelt condolences from the people of the United States to the people of Sri Lanka on the horrible terrorist attacks on churches and hotels that have killed at least 138 million people and badly injured 600 more. We stand ready to help!

A friend is living in Sri Lanka with her husband and two kids. He is with the State Dept., and they just got posted there last year after five years in Rome. I know she’s unhappy, and if I had to guess, I’d say she’s likely miserable, especially after Italy. She’s American but has been in love with Italy since college. I feel bad that she’s looking at another four years there.

Spoke with my friend in Sri Lanka. She’s safe, as is her family. Crazy and sad thing is she got a text from a new friend of hers, the manager of the hotel restaurant where the family was planning to have an Easter meal. The text confirmed their reservation and time and wished her a happy Easter. They think it was the last text/communication he made before dying in the explosion. This is her story, and nothing I can confirm. Regardless, it’s also scary to think they were a short time from eating someplace that’s now rubble.

Yeah. Not surprisingly, she’s pretty shaken up. She’s resigned to another four years there, but I can tell she’s got depression setting in.
