This year has brought two of the worst losses in recent MSU history to the table, and probably the two worst losses in his tenure.

He is washed up. Time to go.

He should not be allowed to sit there and burn down what he has built.

I'm ready for a fresh start!

We get a fresh start next season without Lewerke but it might not be very fun.

Maybe I'm trying to be logical but if Dantonio doesn't resign at the end of the season and finishes 6-6, I don't see AD Beekman making any moves to replace Dantonio.

The only wildcards could change that are President Stanley, Mr. and Mrs Skandalaris along with a select few other major donors.

That’s still the way I think this plays out. If he waits until after that bonus kicks in early next year, we could really be fucked so late in the recruiting game.
OTOH, I do wonder if MD would be willing to leave the program he built with such a bare cupboard instead of trying to restore it’s stability.

He needs to be given an ultimatum: Fire your pals and quit running a country club, clean house, OR you are gone after 2020. We'll let you "resign" gracefully.

My take I think he wants to win. I think he honestly believed he could turn it around with these guys and he’s loyal to a fault. It clearly hasn’t worked out and I think everyone agrees we need new coordinators if he’s staying. I bet even he knows it and I’m sure his staff already knows the writing is not the wall with exception to Tressel who could be in line to take over. I think that’s a long shot at this point but there was talks of it the other year.

I think it’s a locker room problem.

If the Blackwell law suit wasn’t there I’d be more likely to agree with your premise for resignation. However Dantonio is loyal to MSU and wants to protect his reputation. MSU attorneys alluded to their willingness to ask Blackwell questions on the record. That happens, the law suit goes away then I can see Dantonio retiring.

Resigning could explain why he kept his staff intact going into this season, and yes, I know that suggests he knew going in this would be his last. Gives all his staff time to react and plan ahead. It also meant he didn’t bring in new people knowing he was going to be gone after this year. The Blackwell lawsuit has only added to the drama/distractions.

I agree. If he was making a seven figure salary, like $4M a year or something, I would suggest he be held accountable. But since he is a volunteer coach, he should be able to write his own exit. If he wants another 10 years, he can have another 10.
